BAILEY BUC^E. BAILEY. NORTH CAROLINA. FEBRUARY, 19$^ St. Press EncourogesArtidesOn Class Work "Lack of interest in high lighting the actual class work" in school papers was pointed out at the State Press Convention this fall. In keeping with this sug gested idea, the staff has endeavored to present from time to time the work un der study in the various departments. NORTH CAROLINA LITERATURE The juniors in their study of American Litera ture have just completed a unit dealing with North Carolina authors and their works. As there was no unit on North Carolina in the text book, the class, according to the teacher's report, had to work out its unit. AUTHORS The study has included leading North Carolina authors, past and present, and a brief resume of nu merous others. The stu dents gathered data for their reports wherever possible, but literary productions were taken up on class. The boys by drawing sket ches and making posters brought the reports and studies to life. In charge of the artistic work were Mack Burgess, Ray Fulghum, Henry Brantley, Wesley Med' lin, Raymond Boykin, Billy Ruffin, Bobby Turnage, and Charles Rhodes, During the study of this unit each student was chal lenged to try his hand at creative writing.
