In the dairy contest the team from Bailey, made up of Dallas Glover, William lA^atson,and Adrian lyitchell as judges and Lewis Wil liams and Jeff Denton as alternates, lost to Ben- venue by a U17 to U2ii score. Placing third in the beef cattle and hog contest, the team, consisting of Ray Peele,A. W. Pitts, and L, B, Adams, and alternate, Garland Joyner,bowed again to Benvenue, who had 83O points and J^iddlesex, 820, Bailey scored 78O points. BAILEY RATES 2ND IN DISTRICT CONTEST Trailing by only one point, Bailey’s team came out second in State land judging contest for Dis trict I at Farmers last month. Billy Boykin of Bailey with his 170 score was one point behind the high indi vidual scorer of District I. Among 50 federation win ners Bailey’s team cap tured eighth position in the close competition of the State contest. Six of the seven first place win ners were from the moun tainous region of North Carolina, Bailey scored k9h» The highest score, 500, was compiled by Mills River Chapter, Boys Capture First in Land Judging CONDUCT GRADES CRIPPLE DAIRY JUDGING TEAM Because of substitutions at the last minute, the chapter’s Dairy Judging team was unable to win top- rating honors in the Dis trict I Contest last Sat urday in Edgecombe County. Dallas Glover, Lewis Wil liams, and Jimity Bonnet composed the team. Two of these students were re place es for regular team members who had to drop out because of their mak ing D’s on conduct for the past grading period. The contest affords train ing in selection of "good" dairy animals. First place honor came Bailey's way as her land judging team, competiting with ten schools from the Nash-Edgecombe federation, placed highest among the represented schools at Spring Hope last month. All the schools from the two counties were in the contest, Bailey's team wae tops with a score of $12 points. South Edgecombe and Benvenue teams tieo for second place with e score of \\1S% INDIVIDUAL SCORES Roland Stone and Billy Liles of Bailey scored sec ond and third individua.1 high scores in the federa tion. Bailay's team was com posed ' of Billy Liles, Roland Stone, Henry Bran tley, and Billy Boykin. J.H Wells, adviser, accompa nied the boys.
