School has begun and we
are well on our way into a
new year* Enroluient is
satisfactory in the grades.
At this writing there are
382 students in grades 1-8.
High school enrollment is
a little below x^hat was ex
pected, Two factors are
responsible for this situ
ation, First, the ninth
grade is not quite as
large as in recent years;
and second, some students
who were expected back did
not return. The high
school enrollment is 21hm
Now that wo have the en
rollment, let's keep at
tendance at a high level.
DENTIST’S REPORT
The school dentist has
been here for two and one
half weeks. Elsewhere in
the BUGLE is given an ac
count of the work he did.
According to his statement,
the dentist is not being
seen often enough. Many
children were examined who
had very bad teeth. The
examinations did not go
beyond the sixth grade.
All students who have not
seen the dentist within
the past six months should
get an appointment soon
SAFF.TY RECORD
The bus drivers in our
school are entitled to
special recognition for
the safety record built up
over the last seven years.
During that time, there
has been only one report-
able accident and the
damage in that was less
than ten dollars. The
drivers this year have a
record of' safety to main
tain.
Improving instruction is
the major emphasis in our
school for this year. Re
sults of a testing program
carried on in the county
over the past . srveral
years show that we lose
ground during the high
school period. Our stu
dents rate higher percen
tile wise when they are in
the ninth grade than when
they are in the twelth
grade. This doES not mean
that they do not learn dur
ing high school, but it
means that they do not a-
chieve as much as students
do on a national average.
Each teacher is trying to
improve instruction. Each
prrent is urged to help
his child do the very best
PICTURES ARE IN COLOR
Pictures in color was an
added feature offered the
students earlier this
month when the photograph

school's pictures.
To assure better pictures,
special make-up was ap
plied to every one—boy or
girl—who faced the camera.
