Mrs. Harvey Evans’ eighth graders have sent flov^rs to two of their classmates, Me 1 valine Dement and. Alton Manning. In this grade, studying hair styles and proper clothes for differ ent occasions is being taught, but the main in terest is badminton. ACTIVITIES Making booklets, book marks, calendars, puzzles, and charts is taking up much of the time in the seventh grade, sponsored by Miss Rachel Bissette, Mrs. J. P. Underwood's sixth graders are learning two patriotic songs, AMERI CA and THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER, and they are mak ing posters and book re ports. All this is to em phasize American Education Week, PTA I-JIWER Winning again for the third tijne, Mrs. T. C. May and her fifth graders walk ed away with the PTA at tendance banner. With the money they have vron, they bought a United States plastic puzzle. In addition to making globes, Mrs. Olivia P. Barnes' third and fourth prade combination are learning to write letters and ;give oral reports. Their social studies book, "Living Around The World", has been a main interest. Reading groups are moving up in Miss Glee Eatmon’s third grade. Interest is being increased by talking and listening to each other. One reading group is working on an Indian Art Frieze.■> Mrs. Altermise Glover's second grade pupils are adding interesit to their unit study on boats by bringing their own boats to school and experiment ing to determine the dif ference in floating and sinking objects. The pup ils learned that all over the vTorld, wherever there is water, people use boats. Working with the calendar has produced many pleasant hours for Mrs, Horace Mea- comes’ first and second graders. North Carolina 8ail^ Surpasses Red Cross Quota Faculty members and town people of the Bailey dis trict have exceeded their quota of $3^0 to the i’lmerican Senior Red Cross, reports Mrs. D, M. Farmer, chairman, Mrs, Farmer also stated that the Bailey district was one of the five dis tricts in the county to ex ceed its quota. According to school chair man, Miss Edith Farmer, the faculty contributed ^>37.35. The town people donated 1^319*90, making a total of ^f357*25, or $7.25 more than the quota sot for JBailev.
