His smile is so warm; his personality so friendly, that upon meet ing him, one feels immedi ately that he is a life long friend. He is Earl Randolph Floyd, school bus mechanic. The father of two children—Francis and Toramie—Earl lives with his family near Nashville, As for his career, Earl has been a bus mechanic for four and one-haIf years, three of which he has been in charge of the Bailey buses. He previous ly worked as a gas truck driver for the buses. Having never worked in a regular garage, he thinks it unfair to himsolf and the garage business to com ment on his preference of which place to work, Earl is in charge of 25 buses fran Bailey, South Nashville, Middlesex, Stan hope, and Ferrells schools, "Girls appear to be bet ter drivers than boys and take better care of their buses," states Earl, To the question, what are the advantages of being a bus mechanic, he replied, "It is a steady job X\rith a fair salary; and, if you take the job to heart, it is interesting. It is rewarding to work with young boys and girls, vjho someday we hope will build by Keith V, Glover a better world to live in. "The disadvantages are that one is exposed to- all types of weather, long hours, and the same daily routine, "The duties of a bus me chanic during school months are to keep a daily , check on the buses with the help of the drivers, and to keep them safe for children to ride on. Check ing every bus, replacing parts, and painting are a few of the summer jobs per formed by a mechanic." A family man, Earl looks forward to going home to his family after a day on the road.
