Participa ting in class clubs, so cial activiticL-., art work, and planning for sight seeing tours has consumed remaining time. The first and second grades sponsored by Mrs, Leitha B. Lewis have stressed reading this year. Favorite books have been Day In and Day Out and Round About. Spelling is being taught for the first time in years in the first grade, sponsored by Mrs. Horace Meacomes, A spelling race is being held among the students. Miss Eatmon’s third gra ders have stressed letter writing and the different forms of letters. GRADES FORM CLUBS Students in Mrs. Dorothy Browning's eighth grade formed a club called the Teenage Club to start the school year with a fellow ship together,, In I'4iss Doris Thomas’ seventh and eighth grade combination, a club called the Goodtimes^ Club was. organized. The Seventh Grade Club, formed by Miss Raichel Bissette’s seventh graders, meets every two weeks with two assigned students for a program. Miss Ida M. Parker's fourth graders organized the Mickey Mouse Club. The students take part in the, [ program and have fun sing ing together0 CREATIVE DISPLAY Several grades had stu dents to participate in the Creative Display in Nashville, April 8 and 9. Kenneth Beasley and Ken neth Bissette represented Miss Thomas' seventh and eighth grade combination with their posters. Making pioneer.dolls and furniture^ paper clock faces, a toy plane, and a flatboat ks'ot students in Mrs. Olivia P. Barnes' room busy for the first semester. Students in Mrs. Billy Widgeon's second grade en joyed making some "back- ward bunnies" at. Easter.. which they made out of co lorful scraps of cloth bought by each student. Several students in Ruth Underwoods' sixth grade, Miss Clee Eatmon's third grade, and Mrs. Al- termise Glover's second grade had some work in the display, too. TRIPS Students in Miss Rachel Bissette's seventh grade have been planning a trip to Chapel Hill. The students in Mrs, Un- derxiTood's sixth grade had a si-j-eet, sticky time at their annual taffy pull in (cootinuod on page 12) Route 2.
