APRIL. 1961 P NEWS FHA ELECTS OFFICERS The new officers of the Bailey Chapter of the Future Homemakers of America were installed last September at the an* nual program for the initiation of new members. Throughout the year the seventy-six members of the Bailey FHA strive to reach the challenge of their motto, "Toward New Hori zons,” FHA'ers are expert ly guided by their spon sor, Miss Ruth Tumage, Bailey's home economics «teacher. Each year PHA'ers select chaptermothers who help to 'chaperone social functions and to transport FHA'ers to state and district meetings. A.»ERS INITIATED On September 22, I960, twenty-foui’ girls were in itiated into the Bailey Chapter of Future Home makers . The installation of the 1960-61 officers began at 6:00 P. M. This was our second formal initiation service and it was most inspiring to both old and new members of the Chap ter. As each new officer lit a candle to show the FHA piiiposds, she gave a brief description of duties as an FHi'V officer. After the installation, everyone went over to the home economics department for hotdogs, potato chips, pickles, and softdrinks. The fian started -when the initiation services began. Each freshman had been as signed a special costume to wear as a part of the initiation. The sophomores, who were in charge of this part of the program, had designed some terrific "get ups". The girls were wearing everything from flour sacks to their daddy's shoes. A contest to determine tackiest girl v;as won by Peggy Evans. Brenda Lamm was voted the best sport. After cor^^leting the in itiation, dancing on the breezeway was enjoyed by the group. E^iLGEOn... im'Sis atSto bi-county Ri\LLY Thirty-eight girls from the Bailey Chapter of Fu ture Homemc-^kers of i\merica attended the Nash-Franklin Bi-County Rally on March 13, at Middlesex High School. Presiding at the Rally was Bi-County President* Jane Manning, After the opening ceremony the Ben- venue Chapter presented a short devotional on "Our iltnerican Heritage." After this a welcome was extend ed to the quests by Judy Massey from the Middlesex Chapter. She in turn in troduced Middlesex's prin cipal, Mr, Norman E. Patt erson to the group of girls. Speaker for the rally vjas MRS. JUNE M. LOONEY, Nash Coiinty Guidance Counselor. Mrs. Looney gave a very inspiring talk on "A Sense of Values," After the election of the 1961-62 Bi-County officers MR, H, M. JEFFRIES, JR., of ^^Ison, North Carolina, and a representative of Belk-Tylcrs in Wilson, gave us a preview of spring fashions for 1961. .'Ifter the various commit tee reports, the closing ceremony vias led by Miss Manning and the Nash- Franklin Bi-County Rally was adjourned. Taking part in the Rally program were Ann Brock, Phyllis Frey, Judy Horton, and Judy Barnes. Since our candidate for Bi- County Vice-President, lUCHEL FilRMER, was home with the mumps, these girls substituted for her xn the election.
