Each of us, as citizens of Nash County and the 3ailey Community, liave (nany opportunities to ad vance our educational lev els, raise our standards of living, share, enrich, ^nd creste many rwarcing relations with our neigh- Dors and feilowmen, OPPORTUNITIES One of the greatest op portunities that a young person has is attending public school. It is here that he or she should uti lize all possible avenues of the learning process, Sducational training and backgrotinds nre . obt'^ined through hard work, study ing, aprjlication of the scientific process of rea soning and research, and through sharing experi ences with our friends. Dxiring the school year, 'jte endeavor to prepare ovir- selves in an academic man- ler. Meanwhile, although ^e may not be aware, we do jrepore ourselves in the /arious traits of chnr'ic- !:.er and citizenship subh is integrity, dependabil- .^y, trustworthiness, etc. Ask yourself, as I do many times, have I taken the oooortunities and ac companying responsibilit ies that h-’ve been avail able to me this yonr? Have I performed to the best of my ability in all the many things I have undertaken to do? Usually, the honest ?.n- sx^er will be no. If so, you and I should always strive to work more sin cerely and diligently to ward desired goals and am bitions, CHALiii^NuE I think the 196h-^$ Bailey School year has been very successful thus far. The school year is coraing rapidly to a close, I extend the challenge to all of us, to make the re maining months some of the inost productive* As all of you and especi ally the 1965 Seniors, go to accept your role in society, may you always cherish the memories and experiences that you have obtained and shared at Bailey High School, * + * 4- CONGRATULATIONS • Two seniors, Rachel Batts, and Louise Watson, have re ceived scholarships* From Louisburg College, Rachel received a $500 scholar ship, and from Meredith College, Louise has re ceived a $250 scholarship. These are outright grants based on scholarship; therefore, they are not work scholarships. Page 5 ■' SPRIITG FEVER SETS OUR FEET PSDDLiriGi Various people do dif ferent things for fun and enjoyment. John Watson and I did just this, We rode our bicycles a sum of 200 miles during the weekend of the I2th, 13th, and l^tth of April, 1963, It all began the summer before when John and I pur chased a bicycle each, We tool: trips from Bailey’ to Wilson and various other near by towns. Soon we v;ere headed for Goldsboro, and this turned out to be our stepping stone for longer journeys. During the fall our adventurous spirit took us to the boarders of Virginia on an over-night camping trip at Kerr Lake, Spring cane. Everything v;as set for a real trip! T7e v;ere to leave Thursday night, April 11, for At lantic Beach, That night at tv’elve o'clock I joined John in Bailey where we be gan our trip.
