C. Symphony Orchestra Is Heard In City The North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Benjamin Swalin, presented a concert in the GHS auditorium re cently. The program included: Overture to “The Thievish Magpie” written hy Rossini; Symphony No. VII in A Major, Opus 92 by Beethoven; Fantasy on “Greensleeves” by Wil liams; Scherzo, from “Midsummer Night's Dream” by Strauss; “Hoe- Down,” from the ballet Rodeo by Copland; Two Dances from the ballet, Gayne by Khachaturian. The encore was “Begin the Beguine” by Cole Porter. Nurse Speaks At An Assembly Mrs. Ann Harrell of the Duke School of Nursing spoke to the students of GHS at a recent as sembly. Mrs. Harrell said, “I chose nurs ing as a career because I like people and like to be around them and help them.” A student nurse has duties in the operating room, children's ward, maternity ward, and other branched of the hos pital. Nursing is a challenging profession. Upon graduation from the school of nursing a position is easily secured. There is a great shortage of nurses. One thousand more nurses are needed in Sep tember for North Carolina nursing schools. The counselor of N. C. School of Nursing, Miss Helen E. Peeler, told of the opportunities the nursing profession offers to girls and boys. Polly Edgerton, vice president of the SA, was in charge of the assembly.
