Mrs. Cox s Room
Leads Polio Drive
The total amount of money
turned in by the whole school
for the Infantile Paralysis Drive
was $130.86. Out of the two
weeks that the drive lasted, Mrs.
Cox’s room collected more mon
ey than any other home room.
They had a total of $20.00. Mr.
Britton came in second place and
Miss Ipock third.
The goal for the school was
not reached during the week of
the drive, so it was extended for
another five days.

ment was made in the high
school bus and Mr. C. W. Twi-
ford, principal, did the driving.
The local health authorities
urged every high school student
to take this X-ray for three rea
sons, as follows: If tuberculosis
is found at an early stage it can
be easily cured; if a person has
the disease it must be stopped
immediately or it will spread
throughout the community; the
fact that the X-ray was offered
at a lower cost than could be
given if a doctor gave the lung
check.

If you happen to have a poor
friend who owns a good supply
of gas masks, give him the tip
and his fortune is as good as
made. .Any GHS student who
wouldn’t take one off his hands
at a right reasonable rate just
hasn’t been in or around school
lately. That’s plain to see. No
one could struggle through a
week of hydrogen sulfide, anoth
er of chlorine, bromine, iodine
j and florine, and still not sigh for
I the pleasure of breathing pure
oxygen, even through a gas
mask. Anything to draw a
breath again!
In case you aren’t too familiar
with the above mentioned sub
stances, don’t feel lonesome or
individual. Neither are the
chemistry students- (from the
voice of experience). They prob
ably can’t tell you where some
thing is found, how it’s used or
what it looks like, but I bet one
out of ten can guess what a sub
stance is after just one whiff.
Some things are never to be for
gotten! If you think you’d forget
those smells in a short period of
time, just try spending an hour
in the chemistry lab with one of
