There are lots of new records out, some good, some not so good—^but, that re mains to be seen. From Walt Disney’s latest mo vie, “Cinderella”, come two of the top tunes, Victor is the la bel, Vaughn Monroe and Perry Como the vocalists. The songs are “So This Is Love” and “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes”. Doris Day is She lady who really knows how to give out with a novelty tune and that’s just what she’s done on a Colum bia record, the songs are “Quick silver” and “Crocodile Tears”. “Creole Love Call”, Duke El lington has recorded another of his classics, Kay Davis does the vocal, which isn’t really vocaliz ing at all. It’s what you might say a haunting wordless vocal. You might no't care too much for classical music but we’ll in clude pust the tiniest bit of in formation for those few (few is positively right) who do like it. Andre Kostelanetz has record ed an album of classics, music of Fritz Kreisler and Sigmund Romburg. “Stars In My Eyes” and “Love’s Sorrow” by Kreis ler, “Song of Love” and “The Gifts Of Distinction Campbell’s Gift Shop 139 N. Chestnut By Doris Page I guess we all go through the “ambition” stage. I don’t know any way to avoid it, and I don’t think I would want to avoid it if I could. The “ambition” stage can hit us most any age, but it seems to prefer the young innocent years—say about 12 through 16. Movies have a great influence on us during this period. We see a spy picture and im mediately we decide that we owe it to our country to become a member of the Cloak and Dai;- ger. What this country needs, we decide, is better spies or else the Russians will just take over. So for days we go around cau tiously searching for spies until Sarcasm Leads In Peeve Poll Inquiring as to what their pet peeve was, the following answers were received from several GHS students: Miss McKeel — Second year Shorthand class. Naomi Deans — Being asked silly questions by members of the Journalism class. Faye Parnell—Finding gum in the water fountains. Lorraine Pearce — Conceited people. Jean Mitchell — People who won’t return a friendly “hello”. Norma Frick—Jazz. Carolyn Sutton—‘Margie J. Barbara Hinnant — Washing dishes. Julian Hill—Sarcasm. Madeline Epps—^Bookkeeping. Christine Daniels—Homework. Betty Barbee—People who eat noisily. Elton Warrick—Slow girls. Ruth Edmundson — Sarcastic people. Desert Song” by Romburg. Dorothy Kirsten has done “You Go To My Head” and “More Than You Know” for Victor. Miss Kirsten is an opera singer and although the two songs mention ed above aren't exactly classical, they somehow seem to be when she sings them. “My Best To You” till next is sue. we bump smack into another am bition that makes us forget all about being a spy. Wants to Be Pilot This time we have made up our mind that a test pilot is much more important than being just an ordinary spy. Who wants to be a spy anyway? We might get killed being a spy. So we decide that as soon as we get a little older, we are going to of fer our services as a test pilot. We may even go so far to test our ability as a test pilot that we will pretend to have to bail out of our plane which is on fire. This means, of course, that we will simply jump off the garage with an umbrella. This usually nips in the bud any desire we might have had to be a test pilot. If it doesn’t our father does. When we have been forgiven for our little test pilot exploit, our father takes us off probation long enough for us to see a cir cus. Now A Trapeze Artist As we watch the trapeze artist swing gracefully through the air, a new ambition is born. This is an undying ambition, we say, and we may even run away to morrow to join the circus. So we go home and stand on our head in bed and just lie and dream of the day when we, too, will be at home under the Big Top. By the next morning, we have decided not to do anything hasty and so we sa ymaybe it would be better if we waited until after Sunday until we run away. Sunday Is Cure Of course, by Sunday we have passed through several other equally important ambitions and all thoughts of joining the circus are forgotten. And so it goes. Finally we come to the logical conclusion that we ought to wait until we can decide on one definite ambi tion before we leave to start our career. Maybe we had even better fin ish school first.
