At Azalea Show Beauty queens and the big pa rade highlighted the azalea festi val at Wilmington, Friday, Satur day and Sunday, March 30 and 31 and April 1. Sally Edgerton, a junior at G.H.S. was an attendant to the princess, who was chosen from New Hanov er High, and her court of one girl from each of the surrounding coun ties. Margaret Sheridan, queen of the azalea festival, rode on one of the beautiful floats preceding by her court. The G.H.S. band occupied the thirty-sixth place in the parade. They stood out with Saint Louis Blues, Piano Roll Blues and Black Jack. A few of the other bands partici pating were Elizabeth City, The Ma rine Band, Whiteville and Dunn, New Hanover High in Wilmington and Wilmington Junior High. The parade was approximately 29 blocks long and lasted approxi mately two hours. Old House Takes Leave Of School (By Marilyn Best), A strange house sprang up out of the ground over night out in back of G.H.S. last week. This strange house was sitting nicely out in front of the new gym and before we knew it, it had changed its location. How this house got here we do not know but it’s very puzzling you see, because where it was located used to be the baseball diamond. The old shabby house looked so lonesome sitting out there all alone. After scouting around a little bit we discovered the real reason it was there. It seems as if the men working on the new gym needed the space the poor old house occu pies. So they politely put it on roll ers and moved it over on the base ball diamond for a short time. Campbell College Paper Does Feature On Percise Donald Coy Percise, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Percise of Golds boro, was recently honored by his fellow students in the following feature story in the Campbell Col lege semi-monthly paper, “Creek Pebbles”. “When you see ‘Peg’ around, you’re looking at a smiling chap with a joke and a laugh for every body. ‘Peg’, whose real name is Donald Coy Percise, was born near Dudley on August 7, 1932. He has a twin brother, Ronald. Don has brown eyes and hair, stands 5’ 10”, and weighs 179. “ ‘Peg’ attended Goldsboro High School where he performed in all three major sports, playing one year of varsity basketball and two years of varsity baseball, rotating between the positions of catcher, first baseman, and pitcher. While playing football for the ‘Earth quakes’ he was given honorable mention on the all-star Eastern N. C. team. His athletic efforts re warded him as he was elected to the varsity club and served as vice- president for one year. “He was very active in school af fairs. He was sports editor of the school annual, manager of the school printing shop, and also stage manager of ‘Goldmasquers’ whose presentation of ‘Trail of Tears’ won state championship honors. He was a member of the student council for three years and served as social chairman of his class for two years. “The most exciting moments of his high school career were when he kicked two of three after-touch- Francis W. His favorite meal consists of roasting corn, peas, pie, and potatoes toped off with plenty of iced tea—even in winter time. His pet peeve is silly women. Perry Como and Jo Stafford rate high on his movie star list; blue is his fa vorite color. Being a business stu dent, he informs me that account ing is his favorite subject. The most unforgettable person he has met since coming to Campbell is none other than ‘Boston Blackie’. ‘The most admirable quality a person can have is a good personality,’ he says. His favorite pastime is riding with that favorite ‘gal’ in a Chev rolet convertible. “When asked what he though of the present world situation, he summed it up this way: ‘I don’t see why people have to fight, because arguments can always be settled.’ “His ambition is to become a successful businessman, marry and settle down with his family in a peaceful America.” Five Champions : Selected From Ping Pong Race The annual ping pong tourna ment sponsored by the Wayne Rec reation Council and the Wayne Boys Club came to a close last week when five of the champion ships were decided.
