Charles Bray Assembly Speaker “Remember now thy creator in. the days of thy youth,” was the theme u^ed by Evangelist Charles Bray as he spoke at the SA de- \otion Friday, April 4. Mr. Bray was accompanied by Rev. Frank Johnson, pastor of the Hopewell Baptist Church, where Mr. Bray was then holding a revi val. lie is now speaking each night through April 20 at the Johnson Homes Community Church. The speaker said that there is now a socialized gospel in Ameri ca but the need is for a true and divine goospel of Christ. He said that youth can be a wonderful thing or either it can be a trage dy and that it is up to the youth to decide which it will be. Mr. Bray is from Reidsville and Ls a graduate of Bob Jones Uni versity. N.H.S, Members Attend Meeting Members of the National Hon or Society attended a convention held in Asheville, April 3-5. Mela Royall, Jasine Hart and Carolyn Harwell were the official delegates. Sally Edgerton lead a discus sion group. The Women’s chorus sang “On the Steppe” and “The Snow Legend.” They received a rating of excellent. The Men’s Chorus song “Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light,” by Bach; Eze kiel Saw the Whell,” a spiritual secretary, Marjorie Lassiter; treasurer, Wilbur Creech; devo tion chairman, Myrtle Ginn. Ipock; president, Bobby John son; vice-president, Rudolph; sec retary, Bobby Cousins; treasurer, Martha Wallace. Britton: president, Thomas Slade; vice-president, Betty Ann Cooke. Ridge: president, Bessie New- come; vice-president, Dorothy Anderson; secretary, Dorothy Boyd. They re ceived an excellent rating. Emily Newman andd Craven Malpass received superior rat ing. Emily sang “In the Woods” by Bezit; Craven song, “Go Down Moses.” The Boys Quartet received a rating of good. The Glee Club was competing against towns with class “A” schools. Among them were Ra leigh, Durham, and Greensboro. Some of the schools that re ceived superior rating sang class “B” music while our Glee Club, sang all class “A” music. It is the first time in the his tory of GHS that the music de partment has won any awards. The music departmment is ex pecting a large enrollment for the next years of ’52 and ’53.
