The Reserve Officers Training
Corps is a program with the
purpose to educate and train
highly select young men for
careers as commissioned
officers In theNavyor Air Force.
HISTORY
The origional conj^ept of the
ROTC, as established in 1862
was to proylded a nucleus of
officers, well-trained in military
sciences, who could. In the even
tuality of war, readily supplement
the Regular officer corps. Since
that time, graduates of the ROTC
Ijave distinguished themselves as
military officers In every major
conflict involving the United
States.
NAVY ROTC
The youth of America today has
a challenge in the fighting fleets
of the U. S. Navy. Through the
selection system of the Regular
NROTC successful candidates
will start their naval careers in
colleges and universities across
the country in 1963. Qualified
graduates of these universities
will be commissioned in the
Regular Navy or Marine Corps,
and will enter the fleet as trained
junior officers, taking the place
beside officers from other out
standing colleges of the country
and the United States Naval
Academy.
WHO WHOULD APPLY
Who should apply for the
Regular NROTC? The answer
is in two parts and should be
understood by everyone who
applies for this program. First,
the Regular NROTC is maintained
for one purpose— to train and
educate young men for ultimate
commissioning as career of
ficers in the Navy and Marine
Corps. This and the Naval
Academy are the two most highly
competive officer candidate
programs In the Navy. Second
only men reasonably disposed to
making the Navy a career should
plan to enter into the Regular
NROTC Program, and in any
case no man should plan to enter
this program who is certain he
will not make the Navy a career.
