Friday, Dec. 8, 1967 THE BLACKBIRD Page 3 Polgar Throws All Into A Trance “I really felt weird, like I was asleep, except I wasn’t dreaming.” These remarks were made by two boys who were hypnotized November 17, during the Fri day assembly. Our sipecial cuest was the famous hypno tist, Polgar. Following his introduction by Reverend' Charles Penick of the Church of the Good Shepherd, volunteeirs went to assi9t him on stage. His first feat was to choose the student which his assistants on stage had secret ly chosen. This was done and Lev Hicks, the student, was just as baffled as the students on stage. By concentrating on the Impules received from Cin dy Sheppard and Laurie Thorp, Polgar was able to pinpoint the exact row and area of the stu dent then after narrowing it down to two. Lev Hicks was chosen. Group Hypnosis Then came the tong awaited mo'mentsi when students’ in the audience were asked to parti cipate in his “group hypnosis” act. Students fiock^ on sitage, but only fifteen or twenty were allowed to remain. Among the students who volunteered for this act were Brian Lamm Chuck Cappelman and Cindy Sheppard. Shortly after the as sembly, they were interviewed and they commented; “I was really curious, but I knew if I went up there with the- attitude thait it couldn’t be done, that he couldn’t do it. He really did it!” He conclud ed that after it was over, “I was embarassed, yet I was completely fascinated, and at the same time scared.” “After everything was sup posed to be over and we were to get up, I found that I couldn’t. I just knew he had goofed and BLUE BIRD TAXI CO. OIAli Gl 68101 Radio Dispatched 24 HOUR SERVICE WESTWOOD LUMBER CO. ACROSS FROM SENIOR HIGH DR. The fact that hypnosis can make a person do amazing things was proven to these stu dents that Friday. No 111 Effects As to the ill effects of hyp nosis, there were none. The two lx)ys who were told to stop smoking have for ^the most stopped. Those who were hyp notized, when they woke up, felt as if they had been asleep and really felt full of life. The last questions asked to the students was, “Did you know what you were doing?” They answered simultanious- ly, “No, it was as if it was a built in reflex and I had always done it. At first I was embaras sed, Uhen I was just as fasci nated as the rest of them.” ODORS TO FASHION FOR THE SWEATERS WANTED MOST Cox Moore Lord Jeff Thane Odds are, no better is to be had, than here. You will notice that we : cover a smaller area than I many tours, thus spending a ' minimum amount of time tra veling from: city to city, and ; a maximum amount of time ; for pleasure.” ! “In addition to this,” adds I Mr. Mizeile, “we will be in I Sals'burg, Bregenz, Lucerne, j and Interlaken during their mu- ' sical festivals and other i special events. Ticketsi for these j events can be reserved.” j The Alpine Camping Tour is 1 a dream, come true for Vance Mizeile, who is an Assistant jProfesor of English at N.C. ; Wesleyan College, teaching ! courses in Qhaucer and the his tory of the English language.
