Page 4 THE BLACKBIRD Friday, Dec. 8, 1967 RMSH jWelcomes Faculty Members To New Positions Heading the dramatics de partment is Mr. Larry Craven who comes to Senior High from Dunn High School where he taught English and Speech Rodcy Mount is not new for Mr. Craven as he attended school here in the 2 and grades where he made his stage debut. . He received his B.S. degree from East Carolina University in 1960 and has since been work ing towand his M.A. degree. Mr. Craven’s hobbies include salt water fishing, military re search, organ playing, and ar chitectural drawing. While ser ving in the Air Force. Mr. Cra ven was a military historian for bomber and missile units. As was the case with Mr. Craven, Mrs. Ruth Bell at tended Rocky Mount Public Schools. She received her A.B. degree from Meredith College and has taken courses at the University of North Carolina ait Chapel Hill and Wesleyan CoEege. She resides at 1732 Leggett Road with her three daughters; Cora Mac, a junior at East Car olina; Ann, a sophomore at East Carolina; and Mary a sop homore aft Senior High. Gar dening, reading and church ac tivities take up Mrs. Bell’s spare time. When asked if she any comments, Mrs. BeU ^lid, “Having been on the staff Pt Rocky Mount some years ago isi like coming home to be 'track with this excellent school system.” ^ Mr. Earl Bumeijte also was a graduate of Rocky Mount Pub lic Schools. He was graduated from Shaw University, with a B.S. degree. He received his -MJi. from New York Univer- sity. Residing at 335 Penn Avenue with his wife, Juanita, and their daughter, Francine, Mr. Bur nett enjoys such hobbies as sports, listening to albums, and officiating ait football and bas ketball games. DecembeTKiwam^s Si'y December Kiwanis Honors Go To Future Music Major What happens when a person is talented, intelligent, and a leader? The person is select ed as Kiwanis Boy for Decem ber. That person is Ronnie Eg- gers. Each one of Ronnie’s char- arteristics is shown in many ways. Music, is^ one of his main interests. He is especially in terested in the music that is played by the Senior High band and the Senior High dance band. As one of the drum maj ors of the band, he had a part in leading their excellent half- time shows ait the football games. His interest does not end with being drum major, though. He enjoys playing the trum,pet for the Senior High band as wel as. the Wesleyan band!. He also hopes to major in mus^c in college. If he does major in music, he wants to become a band director. Ronnie is active in many or ganizations at Senior High. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Hi-Noc- Ar S'taff. He has also been a student organization; representa tive and homeroom treasurer. This month the honors are bestowed' upon Fran Warren and Stephen Battle. Rotary Girl “I’m honored that I’ve been selected' to represent Senior High as Rotary girl for the month of Deicember!”, com mented Fran Warren. Fran is presently a member of the Cheerleading squad and the Na tional Honor Society; further more, sihe is a Studnt Organi zation Representative and a neW|ly-sieleoted Outstanding Sen ior. Fran keeps very busy; never theless, she finds time for such interests, as sewing, reading, and siports. She enjoys reading mysteries and! books pertaiij- ing to history. Watching foot ball and basketball is another fascinaltaon to her. Asi do most girls, Fran savesi everj^ng that has the slightest signifi cance. On the very top of her list of interests is cheerleading. The University of Nortih Caro lina at Greensboro will be Fran’s home next year. There she will major in art, English, or French. Fran is. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Warren. Rotary Boy Stephen Battle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Turner W. Battle, has many interests. Among them are basketball, golf, reading, politics, dating, tennis, cars, and stamp coltecting. With all, these time-consuming interests, he can find time for school and studying. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Morehead Scholarship finalist. To add to these honors, he was selected as an Outstand ing Senior. Because of his char acter, leadership, and in.terest, the American Field Service se lected him as their chairman. Last summer Stephen represent ed Rocky Mount Senior High in Germany. He was Sophomore Class President and Junior Class Vice-President. When asked for comments, Stephens stated, “I am pleased and honored to be named Ro tary Boy for the month of December.” StA^phen’s future plans con sist of attending Davidson or Carolina. After four years of college, he plans to aittend gra duate school. “My pet peeve, well, it’s peo ple who put on. I detest people who are not genuine and not themselves.” To the new Rotary Couple go our sincerest congratulations and best wishes for the future. The University of North Car olina School of Nursing in Ohapel Hill expanded its serv ices in 1955 to provide for graduate education in nursing administration and the teach ing of nursing.
