Many Drive-Ins, But...
There are plenty of drive-
in theaters, drive-in
restaurants, even drive-in
banks.
What we need now is more
drive-in places to park.

Netters Prepare For Season
Well, tennis is really
booming around the country -
the sport has, you might say,
become a real “smash.” If
you ride by Sunset Tennis
Courts around four in the
afternoon, you’ll see some
familiar faces raising a
“racket.” Ernestly working
on their forehands, backhantk
and lobs are the aces of Rocky
Mount tennis - the 1974 Senior
High Gryphon Tennis Team.
This year’s team is led by
Bill Wallace and his assistant,
George Ramey. The guys are
really enthusiastic about
Coach Wallace, who is in his
first year here at RMSH.
Coach Wallace is a firm
believer in physicar
durability, as exemplified by
all the laps he makes the guys
run. Nevertheless, everyone
on the squad is very happy to
have such an able man
leading the team.
With an abundance of
returnees from last year’s
team, these Gryphon netters
show much promise. As there
is so much talent on the squad,
it’s hard to pick a number one
seed. At press time the four
top players are Jay Carter,
Andy Burnette, Bob Bennett,
and Frank Inscoe. Others
fighting for high spots on the
ladder are Theodore Manos,
Gerry Felton, Joe Jones,
Wade Mayberry, Tim
English, Wilton Gay, Louis
Lucas, Alan Joyner, Eugene
Westry, and Jimmy Couch.
This season is anticipated
as the best yet for Gryphon
netters. Come out and see
some good tennis. You just
might be watching the next
Rod Laver. (Or the next
Arthur Ashe, right Joe?)
Ruler Fights A Groimng
Sport At RMSH
A new sport has been
introduced at RMSH. It has no
formal name as of yet, and the
inventors of the game are Bob
Rosser and Walter Rick6, tWO ’
enterprising juniors. The two
collaborated on the finer arts
of the game in Mr. Aber
nathy’s 5th period Geometry
class. The game is played by
two contestants who have a
“sword fight” with their
straight-edges (or rulers, as
some prefer to call them.) The
object of the game is to “duel”
as long as possible without the
teacher seeing what’s going
on. The sport is starting to
spread, but Bob and Walter
remain the aces. Boys, you

Teams could be organized -
can you imagine the match
ups? How about Josei’s

Julius’ Congruent Radii?
