Students Win Awards
At District Festival

Much Business Conducted
In Recent Meeting of SRA
The SRA met on Tuesday,
February 26, during third
period. Bill Roebuck,
President, called the meeting
to order and Tricia Edwards
gave the devotion. Paula
Murrill read the minutes of
the previous meeting and
called the roll. Then she read
a newsletter from the NCASC
urging interested students to
apply for the NASC c«i-
ference and explaining that
the state theme for 1974-75
would be: “Student Council
Force or Farce?”
Bill reported on a request
made to Mr. Newbern con-
cering improperly set clocks.
He said that 30 clocks needed
to be repaired or replaced and
reported uVat plans were
being made to correct the
situation.
Michael Alston began •
committee reports saying that
the marquis would have to be
refaced and that the ap
proximate cost would be $120.
He said he would obtain
estimates from other sign
companies and the shop
department before taking any
action.
Tricia Edwards reported
that students interested in
buying bus tickets to the 4A
Basketball playoffs should
contact her or Caroline
Lineberry and be prepared to
pay $5.50. She urged students
to buy game tickets ahead of
time here in Rocky Mount.
Next she read the rules for the
School Alma Mater contest
which the School Spirit
Committee is sponsoring.
Ronnie Farmer reported
that the Fire Drill on Feb. 12
had been slow but that
students had needed the
warning at the blocked exit.
Nancy Davis reported
that she had received no
response to her resthome
visitatiOTi project, but that her
committee members would
continue with the work. She
announced that the EDN-
CASE convention would be
held here at RMSH on March
29, and said that we would be
allowed three official and two
unofficial delegates. Laura
Davenport is to be in charge of
any necessary overnight
housing for delegates.

Bill opened New Business
with a report on the AFS
program. He stated that three
of four families had been
interviewed. Next he asked
the SRA to accept Beverly
Brinn as student AFS
chairman with the recom
mendation that she be re
appointed by next years
President. A corresponding
motion made by Nancy Davis
and seconded by Jeff Collins
was carried by a voice vote.
Bill said that a money making
project for the AFS program
would be designed in such a
way that all students would be
able to join in the activity.
The Honor Roll System
committee was to meet on the
afternoon of the meeting day,
and a report was promised for
Drama students from
Rocky Mount Senior High
School attended the District
Drama Festival of the
Carolina Dramatics
Association held at North
Carolina State University in
Raleigh on March 23. These
students returned with nine
awards out of the eleven
awards given. Eight of these
were top awards.
The students had three
entries in play production.
Two of these plays were
distinguished ratings, which
are the highest awards. The
third play was rated as ex
cellent, which is just below
top.

The investigation on
disciplinary procedures was
reported to have little interest
from the students who
originally proposed the
motion.
Representatives without
constitutions were asked to
obtain copies from the
guidance center as a
knowledge of the constitution
is necessary for constitutional
revisions.
Foreta Grant, Sr. class
Pres., announced that seniors
would be buying caps and
gown at the price of $5.
A motion was made by
Tricia Edwards to request
Coach Lundy to take ap
propriate action for retiring
Phil Ford’s jersey number 20.
The motion was seconded by
Reginald Sumner and carried
by voice vote.
The Edsonians were
congratulated for receiving
nine awards at the CDA
district session held in
Raleigh on March 23.

congratulated for its ac
complishments. At a district
meeting, Louanda Dickens
won 2nd place in a display
Completing the nine
awards received were five top
awards in acting and the last
in theatre arts for costuming.
Those receiving acting
awards were Margaret
Griffin, Terrie Leggette, Ken
Batchelor, and Gary Carter.
Ken Batchelor won two
awards, one for each of the
plays he performed in.
Others appearing in the
plays included Judy Boddie,
Celeste Green, Ann
Daughridge, Marcie and
Mindy Kamins, Amy Max
well, Dennis Nicholson, Paula
Murrill, Stuart Rodwell, and
Stuart Vaughan.
Also, from February 23 to
March 3 nine students plus
Mr. Rawls attended a festival
in Cincinnati. These students
were: Stuart Rodwell, Stuart
Vaughan, Amy Maxwell,
Paula Murrill, Tom Bennett,
Ken Batchelor, Beverly
Powell, Margaret Griffin and
Gary Carter. They returned
with one award which was
given to Gary Carter for best
actot. Their productions were
titled as Fables for Fun.

days
April 12-19 Easter vacation
May 16 Registration deadline
for the June 22 SAT
contest, while Libby Turner
received 1st place in public
speaking. Carolyn Gant was
elected district i^cretary, and
Evangeline Simmons District
President.
There being no further
business, the meeting was
adjourn^ at the end of third
period.
