She now spends her leisure time bike riding. For her extra spending money she works at Rosenbloom Levy at Tarrytown. When asked about her reaction on being chosen Kiwanis girl, she said, “I was shocked.” JANET PARTICIPATES: Janet, a senior, is presently homeroom vice president, a member of the School Spirit Committee, Good Sports Club, and Senior Privilege Committee. She is also the senior class secretary and Is working on the senior class float. Curt And Cynthia Named The Human Relations Committee has named Curt Todd and Cynthia McKnight as Human Relations Couple of the Month. Curt works at the Bonanza Steak House. He enjoys watching football and basketball, and he also enjoys listening to music. Curt works at the Bonanza Steak House. Curt wants to go to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cynthia works in the childrens’ department at Montgomery Wards. She plans to go to college at Howard or UNC and major in business administration or pre-law. She enjoys listening to music, going to practices, and watching football. Cynthia is the president of the Youth Fellowship at Metropolitan Baptist Church. She is also the secrtary of the youth choir at her church. CURT PARTICIPATES: Curt Todd, a senior, is a senior staff member of the Hi-Noc-Ar, the yearbook, where he serves as Co-Circulation Manager. He works part-time with the Bonanza Special Tactic Committee. CYNTHIA PARTICIPATES: Cynthia McNight, a senior, is a member of the color guard and is a member of the Good Sports Club. She Is in SRA and served as secretary to the Junior Class last semester. Rotary Couple Selected Denise Alston and Dee Rich have been selected as the Rotary Couple of the month by Principal Elton Newbem. Denise stated she enjoys playing basketball. She played on the girls’ basketball team in the tenth grade. She is cheering on the varsity cheerleading squad for the second year. She says that cheering is enjoyable. Denise plans to attend either Spelmans College in Georgia or UNC-G to major in sociology. After college she intends to be a social worker. Dee works in childrens’ church and sings in the youth choir at Calvary Baptist Church. He says he also enjoys basketball, tennis, and baseball. Dee is a member of the baseball team. He is also in volved in Student GHovemment. Dee attended Boys State, a convention that deals with local and state government, this summer, and he now serves as the first semester senior class presi dent. DENISE PARTICIPATES: Denise, a senior, is the secretary of the SRA; she serves as chairman of the Publicity Committee. She was junior homeroom president and also a representative to the Student Advisory Council. She also served on the Bicentennial Steering Committee. DEE PARTICIPATES: Dee, a senior, is a second year member of the Hl-Noe-Ar staff and a representative to the Rocky Mount Area Student Council. He is the vice president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Phalanx Club. He serves on the Senior Privilege Committee and is a member of the Publicity Committee of the SRA. & 'mwm RICHARD SITS CONTENTEDLY — Richard Oxendine is a Semi-Finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship program. BuUuck] Richard Competes For Scholarships Richard Oxendine, a senior at Rocky Mount Senior High, is among 1,500 semifinalists in the 13th annual National Achieve ment Scholarship Program for outstanding Negro Students. Richard was among 55,000 black students who requested consideration in the 1977- achievement program at the time they took; the 1975 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test — National Merit Scholar ship Qualifying Test. Achievement Scholarships are financed by grants from some 150 program sponsors and contributions from program sponsors. Most of the sponsors are business firms, corporations and corporate foundations. About 40 Colleges and Universi ties also offer achievement scholarships for black students who plan to attend their institutions. Richard became eligible for this scholarship by scoring 1180 on his PSAT in 1975. He must now match this score on the SAT. His previous SAT score is 1060. Richard attended the Gover nors School this year and studied Social Studies. He is presently Chairman of the Firedrill Committee of the SRA. In his spare time, Richard says he enjoys studying the Martial Arts.
