The Rocky Mount Senior High
Dramatics students had the
opportunity to see the Polish
Mimes’ Theatre on October 2.
There were more than 95
students from both Senior High
and from Wesleyan College at
the afternoon performance.
Before the performance Raj-
mund Klechot, Stefan Nied-
zialkowski, Jolanta Kruszewska,
Andrzej Szczuzewski, and' Zd-
zislaw Starczynowski, the
founders of the Warsaw
Pantomime Company and Ms.
Jolanta Kruszewska, the lead
dancer of the Wroclaw Opera
conducted a workshop instruct
ing 18 Senior High Dramatics II
students and eight Wesleyan
College dramatics students in
exercises.
While these 26 students were
“attempting” to initiate the
Mr. Jaws Chews
Legs For Lunch
On Sepu Tiber 2, Randy Hill,
a Rocky Mount Senior High
alumnus, was bitten by a shark
which some observers claim to
be an 11-foot hammerhead. Al
though Randy is not exactly
sure what kind of shark bit him,
he is sure that the 150 stitches
taken on his right calf, instep,
and ankle plus the three days in
the hospital were not pleasant.
In attempting to describe the
attack, Randy seemed unsure.
almost as though the whole
incident were indescribable. He
said that at the exact time of
the attack he could not fathom
what was happening. It was not
until he reached shore and saw
“teeth marks” that he realized
what had actually happened.
Randy says he feels lucky be
cause “Jaws” did not shake his
head. As a result, Randy de
scribed the attack as “passive”
since any movement of the
shark’s head could have cost
Randy his foot.
Randy, 23, may not exactly be
classified as “shark shy” as his
six subsequent surfing trips
since the bite attest. It has been
reported, however, that the
number of “beach bathers”
along Emerald Isle has de
creased and the number of “sun
bathers” increased since that
fateful September day.
Preacher Thought Qiristiaiiity
Bashful And Retiring
It is ironic to name a chaplain
after a boulevard filled with
nothing but trip joints, bars,
pushers and their finished
product — addicts, dixie land
jazz, and pick pockets all
wrapped up in a maze of narrow
brick streets, wrought iron,
three blocks from the Missis
sippi River. But in New Orleans
a “Chaplain of Bourbon Street”
has been proclaimed by
Louisiana’s governor.
Bob Harrington at 240 pounds
‘and standing six feet, four
inches is not an everyday
chaplain by an means. His
booming voice and commanding
personality merge together to
produce a preacher with “a
comic’s timing and a showman’s
delivery.”
Mr. Harrington spoke at
Municipal Stadium Saturday,
Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. He has said
“money doesn’t make you
successful. Success is to know
the will of God and be in it.”
Mr. Harrington hasn’t said this
because it sounds pretty, but he
should know for he operates a $3
million corporation. Chaplain
Harrington explained that be
fore he had been bom again he
thought Christianity was bash
ful and retiring but “%s I read
my Bible J cnat Peter,
Timothy, Paul and the early
Christians were bold in Jesus.”
Mr. Harrington showed concern
for the audience when he
declared that he knew if a family
realized their sins, asked
forgiveness from Jesus and read
the Bible as a family, that they
would see their family being
built up as a strong, secure, and
whole unit.
Mr. Harrington showed the
audience where the Bible says
that Jesus is “the way, the
truth, and the life and that no
one can go to the Father, but
through Jesus.” In a humorous
note he added that “I’m the
only man I know that can walk
down Bourbon Street with my
Bible in my hand and the joy of
Jesus in my heart and people
point at me. I think if Lady
Godiva came there nobody
would notice, “ceptsome hippie
might say ‘man look at that
horse.’ ” Mr. Harrington has
said though that more of the
Bourbon Street people come to
realize that Jesus is their Lord a
lot quicker in most cases, than a
“church go’er” who is going to
Hell if he doesn’t see Jesus as
his Lord and invite Him in. He
has said "many good church
go’ers are going to find that
attendance isn’t where it’s at,
but a relationship with Jesus is
the important thing.”
Mr. Harrington summed up
his own ministry best by saying,
“I want every eye to see, every
ear to hear and every heart to
know ‘it’s fun being Saved.’ ”
movements there were many
comments from the students
who were observing. One stu
dent was heard to say “They’re
having so much fun, I wish there
was enough room for all of us to
do the exercises with them!”
Even though not all of the
students could work with them,
almost all of them had the
chance to talk to the performers,
Since the actors knew very little
English, there were a lot of
movements in an attempt to
understand each other.
After the workshop the Polish
Mimes’ Theatre performed
“The Mirror.” During all of
their performances they strive
to show the spectator the ever
lasting truth that nothing is
more interesting for mankind
than man himself.
Gryphon Reviews Scaggs
Boz Scaggs. For a person with
a little imagination those two
words could mean a number of
things, but to a person with a
little musical sense they mean
one thing — good music. Boz
Scaggs isn’t a terminal illness or
a Russian Czar; he’s a musician,
with a fresh new sound.
In the album Silk Degrees,
Boz Scaggs combines frank, un
affected lyrics and vigorous,
moving instrumentation with
vibrant, energetic vocals to
show the world what his idea of
music is. In the song
“Georgia,” Scaggs, sings
“your daddy was high the night
he dreamed up you.” In “We’re
All Alone,” he pleads, “No
need to bother now, let it out, let
it all begin. All’s forgotten now;
we’re all alone.” The predom
inate keyboards and guitar are
backed up brilliantly by a mov
ing bass guitar and full
orchestration in all songs,
adding a fullness to the melody.
Vocals are not garbled; they are
clear and very emotional.
Silk Degrees has a song to
appeal to every emotion and
mood. Such songs as “It’s
Over” and “Lido Shuffle” are
rocking and alive, while
“Harbor Lights” and “We’re
All Alone” are mellow and
soothing.
The appearance of Boz
Scaggs has produced a re
freshing change in contempora
ry music. He has proved himself
with an album off of which two
hit singles have already come.
