[Photo by Hutchisson] SRA Officers Elected Three second-year and six first-year members of the ’76-’77 Gryphon Staff have been awarded membership in Quill and Scroll, the international honorary society for high school journalists. Trey Bulluck, Cathy Kil patrick, and Kevin Maurer are seniors selected to join the Society. Juniors achieving Quill and Scroll membership are: Clifton Barnes, David Goff, Beth Hutchisson, Keith King, Tohn Smith and Dan Thorpe. Membership in Quill and croll is awarded to students ho have done superior work in )me phase of journalism or school publication work for at least one year. Also, member ship is limited to those students who rank in the upper third of their class in general scholastic standing. Trey Bulluck has served as senior photographer this year taking a wide variety of pictures for the newspaper and special izing in developing negatives. Cathy Kilpatrick has served as Business Manager of the ’76-’77 staff. She has been responsible for all financial records of The Gryphon. Kevin Maurer as advertising manager organized and led the staff in earning approximately $4,500. Sports, editorial and column writing have been the fields of interests for Clifton Barnes. David Goff has led the news department during the second semester and has written a number of stories requiring extensive investigation. Serving as junior photo grapher Beth Hutchisson has specialized in printing pictures for The Gryphon. Recently elected ’77-’78 edi tor, Keith King has worked in news, editorials, and sports. Investigative reporting, edi torial and sports writing have been the major interests of John Smith. Dan Thorpe received national recognition for his feature writing earlier this year when he was awarded a National Gold Key Award by Quill and Scroll. Cheryl Bryant, Stephen Phil lips, Teresa Everette and Bruce Haden are the new student representatives assembly officers. SRA is a part of the Student Organization. The prcsj^ntp but at the same time is president of the Student Organization. When asked how she felt about being elected as presi dent, Cheryl replied, “For the first time, I think I was speechless. When they first told me I thought they were joking. I was told right after school and called later. The first thing I thought was ‘You’ve gotta be kidding’. ” Stephen said, “When in formed of my election as vice ■president of the Student Organization, I was overwhelm ed with joy, for just the thought of the majority of the students of RMSH supporting and electing me to office was thrilling.” Teresa stated ‘‘When I realized that I had won as secretary I was surprised and Art tlgkt race. I'was' won because I knew that I could do the job and I was grateful that the student body elected me.” Bruce’s reaction to becoming treasurer was, “When the elections committee called up and said, ‘Bruce, you just made a good showing but uh...you won,’ I just felt that everything that 1 put into my campaign really paid off and now I’m glad I can serve the school. I’ve tried to thank everybody and would like to say 1 will carry out my responsibilities by giving it everything I’ve got.” BLOODMOBILE VISITS — Students, 17 years of age or older attempt to win a plaque for donating blood. Bond of the National Honor Society (NHS) May 9, in a special ceremony at Rocky Mount Senior High. Seniors inducted were Samuel Beavans, Mark Holland, Cyn thia Johnson, Deborah Still, Rona Still and Janet Winstead. Juniors inducted were Kaye Batts, Candance Brantley, Cheryl Bryant, Debbie Bulluck, Laura Cave, Sarah Clements, Barbara Coggins, Terrie Con- ler. Brad Craft, Joan Cum mings, and Ann Dinan. Michael Edmond, Teresa Everette, Deborah Glover, Misty Hoskins, Carol Lehman, Billy Luther Jr., and Hugh Nobles, Mino Osterkamp, Ste phen Phillips, Janet Pridgen, Bobby Rackley, and Hope Reese.
