Representatives from fifty-eight universities, colleges, technical and military institutions were on hand to answer questions from students and parents. Photo by Jerry Joyner College Aid Defined Mri. Jacqueline Hetton’i history students produced a replica of a Medieval newspi4>er. Class Prints Replica Of Medieval Paper The Guidance Department conducted a Financial Aid Workshop for parents and stu dents November 15. Approxi mately 50 parents and students attended the workshop, which was held in the library. Mr. Bill Hutchisson and Mrs. Edythe Tweedy used a visual presentation from the College Scholarship Service (CSS) of the College Board. Mrs. Twee dy added that this presentation provided parents and students with “practical and reliable information about post secon dary education costs and finan cial aid.” The counselors also stressed the three main kinds of infor mation needed to estimate col lege costs: —The total expenses of at tending each institution under consideration; —The sources of aid available and how decisions are made about awarding it; —And how to apply for special sources of aid. —The College Board Publica tion Meeting College Cost pro vided work space for partici pants in the workshop. Using this, they could estimate ex penses and determine eligibili ty for financial aid. The Guidance Department has also extended an invitation to parents who did not attend the workshop to make an appointment with one of the counselors if assistance is need ed. Mrs. Jackie Heston’s fourth period 10th gjrade World Cul tures class is producing a replica of a newspaper on the Medieval Times. Mrs. Heston, the instructor and advisor, states, “I want to show my class how to construct and produce a newspaper.” The entire class is working together to make a three page newspaper that contains main news, features and editorials. “Medieval Home Making,'’ “The Crown of Charlemagne,” and “The Pope Crowns Charlemag ne” are some of the stories which will be presented on the first page. Phil Davis commented, “I enjoy working on the paper and when the time comes to join The Gryphon staff, I will.” Reta Powell adds, “It’s more than I’d expected. I like what I’ve done.
