Senior High won two second place trophies for the club business procedure and the display contest. Participants and winner in the club pro cedure were Barry Rehm, Rowland Waters, Beverly, Roach, Lucille Adams, Jocial Parker, Rick Barrett and Pat ty Barrientos. In the display contest the winners were Bob by Leggins, Bill Newton, Cherie Batt and Mark Gentry. Presentation on criminal law Guest speaker Attorney Susan Van Dyke Jackson, made a presentation on “criminal law” during second period on March 31st in the auditorium. This served as a supplement to the criminal justice chapter in American Government. Art show Art teacher, Karen Riggs had a one woman art show which began on April 13 at Peoples Bank. The show will run for two weeks. Her show consists of pencil drawings. Miss Riggs has been working on these drawings for about a year. Students to visit Spain Miss Carol Taylor and Mrs. Jane Parvin are preparing for their trip to Spain on April 17. Two sophomores Jane Gill and Tracy Rea, will be going with them. “I’m very excited because we’ll be going to places that I haven’t seen before up along the Mediterra nean Co^st,” said Mrs. Parvin. FHA HERO Representatives of the Future Homemakers of America Chapter attended the 1981 Leadership meeting of the North Carolina Associa tion of FHA/HERO along with over 4,000 members and ad visers from across the State. “We Are Family” was the theme of the 1981 meeting which was held at the Raleigh Civic Center on March 28. Attending the convention were 35 student delegates and two advisers. The rally was an all-day event consisting of speaker. Dr. William Purkey, Professor of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The FHA/HERO mother- daughter banquet and fashion show will be coming up in April. Twenty students competed in math contests at East Carolina University and Atlantic Christian College. The participating students are front row; Mary Hoskins, Brent Bunn, Paige Harrington, Jenifer Odom, Hilary Cooper, Ed Brown and An- Students compute in math contest By KATHY MILLS Local math teams placed se cond in the annual math con test held at East Carolina University and placed fifth out of 27 schools in the regional math contest held at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. The team of seniors Terri Bryant, Price Cherry, Mary Hoskins, Hryrong Park and Ted Reese; juniors Anna Car- mody, David Hurchella, Robert Whitaker, Brent Bunn, Patrick Kirkland and Ed Brown; sophomores Eddie Bowman, Paige Harrington, Eric Kron, Jennifer Odom and Hilary Cooper competed at East Carolina Univertity. In this contest Ted placed first and Hryrong placed fourth among the individual winners in the comprehensive division. The team placed se cond overall in the comprehen sive division. In the Algebra II division, the team won second place, and Ed was third among individual winners. In the Geometry division, Paige plac ed fourth among the individual winners. Teacher visits The master teacher- internship, a project con ducted by the department of Occupational Education at North Carolina State Universi ty, allowed Mrs. Judy Clark to come here for two days to observe Ms. Shirley Bullock’s classes., Mrs. Clark, a first year Vance Senior High School teacher, learned new teaching techniques and gained knowledge concerning dif ferent types of presenting material to her classes from her experiences in Ms. Bullock’s classroom. “I really enjoyed this oppor tunity,” Mrs. Clark said. “I was very impressed with the. student body here.” Typing contest Senior Becky Bullock and sophomore Paula Varnett, first year typing students, and sophomore Trevor Turnage and senior Karen Zeiger, se cond year typing students, competed in the 30th annual Typewriting contest at East Carolina University in Green ville on Wednesday, March 25. 4 Sophs elected at convention na Carmody. The team of seniors Susan Dresser, Scott Cooper, Kerri Kolehma, Jochen Stober and junior Steve Hicks competed at the contest held at Atlantic Christian College. In placing fifth out of 27 par ticipating schools at Atlantic Christian they were only two points off the winning scores. By MIKE BARNHILL Two local students were elected to office at the 1981 Eastern District Convention of the North Carolina Associa tion of Student Councils, Sophomore Chuck Robbins was elected special represen tative. If the present eastern district president should resign. Chuck will take her place as president. Sophomore Jeannette Everette was elected district five chairperson,' taking - the place of former district five chairperson, senior Terri Bryant. Terri served kS division five chairperson^ last year, and at the convention this year, she headed up a district five workshop. Others who attended the convention include Student Representative Assembly President Dale Gray, seniors Angela Pittman, Barbara Williams, Susan West and ad visers Mra.;Sue Hayworth and Mrs. Kathrine Lucas. The convention was held March 28 and 29. The conven tion’s theme was “Student Leaders: Designers of Tomor row.” There were workshops relating to student involve ment, birth control, teen pregnancy and drug abuse. “The majority of the ses sions were very informative, and the overall atmosphere was very friendly,” Dale said. “Our students were really involved,” Mrs. Hayworth said. “Mrs. Lucas and I were very proud of them.” ^Eastern ^ Photo jSnpply 108-A South Boddie St., P.
