Albemarle High polished off its
competition in the South Pied
mont Conference tennis tourna
ment held at the Monroe Country
club May 6 with apparent ease.
Taking three of the four titles,
Albemarle won the girls’ singles
and doubles and the boys’ singles,
with Spencer boys taking the dou
ble crown. Concord High furnish
ed the competition in the finals,
but bowed before the superior
Bulldog teams.
Perhaps the most outstanding in
dividual’s performance of the tour-
nament was given by Bill Mann,
number one player for the Bulldogs
and winner of the boys’ singles ti
tle. Mann defeated Martin Bar
rier, Spider ace.
Josephine Whitley also turned
in a bang-up performance in win
ning the girls’ singles crown. Ha
zel Mauldin and Wilma Morton
won in the girls’ doubles.
Claude Shankle and Reid Gaskin
met with defeat in the semi-finals.
