February 14, 1952 THE FULL MOON Page 5 SPORTS PARADE Jimmy Skidmore Henry Carpenter Bi&sketball is now going full swing, and many exciting things are beginning to take place. The most famous cry on the basket ball bus is: “Hey-oh-there! Who hit you in the mouth!” Leslie Swanner, who did a fine job holding down the position at fullback in football, is now filling the plug as guard on the basketball squad. Due to his calmness during a game, he is a fine ball-handier and is a threat for the basket from any position. Filling the other position at guard is Bruce Lowder, who does his share of stealing the ball and setting it up for crip shots. Defense is the key point for Bruce. All one has to do is check the book and see how many points his men have scored and he will find it very few. The slightly taller ones on the team, who are seen as for wards, are Bill Huckabee and Keith Byrd. When it comes to two guys working together, these two can work plays never thought of by anyone else. Both boys like to come across the middle, 3ump and fire. Keith Byrd, a lone southpaw for A. H. S., has made great progress in faking his opponents and putting the ball in the basket. He has recently been absent from the team because of sickness, but he is back now and helping spark his team on to victory. ^ :fc :}c :fc 4: Bill Huckabee, starting right forward for A. H. S., has become a star in the limelight for the Bulldogs. Getting off to a slow scoring start, Bill has come back fast and consistently puts the ball in the basket. Scoring twelve points at Monroe and fifteen against Spencer, he has really made a showing for himself. Good luck, Bill, and keep throwing the ball through the basket. Jerry Tray wick, high scoring center for the Bulldogs, has really been making progress. Being chief offensive threat, this boy has an average of about thirteen points and is one of the most consistent rebound men on the team. Jerry, who is only a junior m high school, is considered one of the best centers in the confer ence and is sure to be one of the conference leaders in scoring. Another member of the squad that has been doing a fine job is Jimmy Skidmore. Jim keeps the team full of pep and lots of winning spirit. Henry Carpenter and Claude Lawhon are two other boys Who have contributed greatly to the Bulldogs’ successes. Both of them are very good shots and also fine, smooth ball-handlers. Singers In Small Groups Selected Mr. Fry has selected the boys quartet and the girls ensemble for this year. The boys in the quartet are: first tenor, Joe Clayton; second tenor, J. C. Boone; baritone, Ran dall Plyler; and bass, David Mor row. The nine girls in the ensemble are: first soprano, Sandra Davis; Marilyn Greene, and Martha Rae Hams; second soprano, Sue Red- Poplin, and Carolyn Miller; alto, Barbara Crowell, Morrow, and Margaret Griffin.
