Page 8 THE FULL MOOK October 4, 1954 Committees Are Chosen: Work Begun On Crossroads The annual staff composed of editor, Bobby Peck; business man ager, Skipper Gantt; and spon sor, Mrs. Carter, held its first meeting Thursday morning and chose the following committees to publish the 1955 Crossroads: Assistant editor, Martha Har wood; assistant business manager, Joan Renger; junior representa tive, Peggy Furr; and sophomore representative, Gareth Pender- graft. The literary staff is headed by Charlotte Pope, editor. The mem bers are Pat Allan, Dickie Cash- well, Bill Beeker, Judy Scaggs, Johnsie Baldwin, Arce Rose Rich, Frances Ross, Amorelle Tucker, Frances Litaker and Lendell Smith. Editor of the sports staff is Ed ward Hatley, and serving with him are Donnie Smith, John David Moose, Roger Saunders, and Har vey Ann Smith. On the business staff are Elaine Mills, Jeffie Lee, Yoder Whitley, Charles James^ Phyllis Greer, Jean Starr, Sue Whitley, Leon Snuggs, Lewis James, Opal Eudy, Elaine Swaringen, Stephen Sasser, Miri am Davis, Myra Melton, Faye Nash, Shirley Lowder, Martha Morrow, and Mary i Jane Kirk patrick. The typing staff headed by Car- lene Doby, ^itor, consists of Sue Furr, Elizabeth Hunsucker, Sylvia Long, Libby Howard, Shelby Doby and Donald Almond. Serving with Myra Efird as edi tor of the art staff are Jolee Mor ris, Dot Ellis, Louise Cooper, and Janice Parker. On the photography staff are Ned Lowder, editor, with Arnell Doby and Marvin Clark. Class Elections Held In School Class officers and advisors have been elected by the classes of Al bemarle High School. Officers of the senior class are: president, John David Moose; vice president, Elliott Gaddy; secre tary, Edward Hatley; and treasur er, Yoder Whitley. Miss Caugh- man was chosen by the seniors as class advisor. Miss Misenheimer was elected class advisor of the junior class. The officers are: president. Bill Fisher; vice president, Johnny Richardson; secretary. Iris Hun sucker; and treasurer, Carrie Eudy. Charlie Smith was elected presi dent of the sophortiore class, with Linda Moose, vice president; Rona Jane Mauldin, secretary; Jeanette Hinson, treasurer; and Mr. Robi nette, advisor. The Mixed Chorus is planning to undertake a number of projects this year and the card sale is one of them. 25 Are Initiated Into Bible Club New members were initiated in to the Bible Club at their first meeting, held in the old gym on Saturday evening. Twenty-five students under went the rites, making a total membership so far of sixty-one. Different people were in charge of the program, which was as fol lows: Gene Burris gave a test on the constitution; each new mem ber was required to dig a marble out of a pan of flour with his teeth; and Amorelle Tucker gave a quiz on the names of different magazines. The Girls’ Trio sang “Have You Talked to the Man Upstairs” and “I'm In His Care.” The Bible Club was one year old at this meeting, so Johnsie Rus sell had a surprise for the old members as well as the new — a birthday cake with one candle and soft drinks for refreshments. Miss Abrahamsen ended the program by giving a short talk on “Why Did You Join the Bible Club?” Officers of the Bible Club for the year are: Johnsie Russell, president; Jo Ellen Brooks, vice president; Jo Stallings, secretary; Patricia Thompson, treasurer; and Hazel Lawhon, general represen tative. Edward Hatley was recently elected president of the organiza tion, with Charles Smith serving as vice president. Susie Swarin gen will serve as secretary and Lendell Smith as treasurer. Committees for the year were chosen at a recent meeting of the officers. The publicity committee with Joan Renger as chairman, is com posed of Martha Harward, Fran ces Litaker, Skipper Gantt, Wade Smith, Charles Smith, George Weaver,, and Ann Rogers. Sue Rogers is chairman of the robe committee and helping her will be Shirley Owenby, Sandra Poplin, Jimmy Almond, Benny Russell, Betty Jean Burris, and Barbara Copley. Chairman for the social and hos pitality committee is Charlotte Pope. Dotty Walker, Peggy Furr, Edshay Brunson, Luther Kimery, Bobby Peck, Janis Westerlund, Joe Kluttz, and Franchot Palmer will serve on this committee. The transportation committee is composed of Charles James, chair man; Ann Smith, Larry Lisk, John David Moose, John McLaughlin, Roger Saunders, Donnie Smith and Dickie Cashwell. Belvin Terry will be head of the stage arrangements. Helping him will .be Lewis James, Gareth Pen- dergraft, Kenneth Barbee, Pete Chance, Bernie Miller, and Wayne Eudy. Chairman of the scrapbook com mittee is Myra Efird. Pat Allan, Linda Duke, Maxine Harward, Elaine Mills, and Elizabeth Tuck er are on, this committee. The library committee, headed by Arce Rose Rich, is composed of Susie Culp, Amorelle Tucker, Lois Harward, Elaine Lowder, Jean Morgan, and Larry Chance.
