February, 1955 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Local Clubs Honor Two Senior Boys Bill Beeker and Edward Hatley, two outstanding members .of the senior class, were the student representatives to the Rotary and Lions Clubs for the month of January. Bill Beeker, the Student Ro- tarian, is one of the most active boys of the senior class. He serves on the Full Moon Staff and last year he placed second in the district contest of the World Peace Essay and also in the National Oratorical Contest. Bill is a member of the National Honor Society and the Modern Music Masters Society. Edward Hatley, besides being an officer of the Modern Music Masters Society, serves as sports editor for both the Full Moon and the Crossroads. Ed is president of the Mixed Chorus and has been a member of this organization for three years. Besides being very active in church work he has been a member of Hi-Y for four years and takes part in Hi-Y basketball. Both boys are ranked high scholastically and are regarded very highly by both teachers and pupils. A chest X-ray can detect early tuberculosis. Wolfe Joe McManus clinic is quite an honor for band students from central North Car olina for the clinic has high stan dards for the students that at tend. They must be capable of playing a range of music from John Phillip Sousa marches to the difficult classical number in the V and VI grades of music. The Eastern All-States Clinic will attract A.H.S. band students to Chapel Hill February 4 through 5. This is the first year that Albemarle has been asked to participate in this clinic. Bill Fisher, Robert Smith, Neal Eflrd, Wayland McKenzie, and Gary Whitley have also attend ed the clinic at Wadesboro. Compliments of H. & L. Accessories East Main Street PHONE 340 James And Smith To Play In East-West All-Star Game Charlie James and Donnie Smith, two of Albemarle’s most outstanding football players, have received another honor in being selected to play in the East-West All-Star Game, in Greensboro the middle of Au gust. Donnie, who has been the Bull dog’s starting fullback for the last three seasons, made the Greensboro Daily News All- State Football Team several months ago and has been known as one of the state’s finer backs. Donnie also plays basketball and baseball and is one of the best all-round athletes in A.H.S. Charlie has played center for the Bulldogs for several seasons. Charlie also made all-state, be ing chosen on the Charlotte Ob server’s team. Beside this, Char lie played in the Shrine Bowl in Charlotte and played a very fine game as a defense line backer. Charlie is an outstand ing student as well as an out-' standing football player. Both boys will report to Greens boro in August for a week’s prac tice prior to the game. Last year Coach Webb coached the West to a 44 to 0 victory over the East. Jimmy Page and Jim my Millican played for the West last year.
