Handbills, drawn by Robert Smith, were distributed in all the rooms at high school and in the windows downtown. Posters also were made that are suitable for putting on the square downtown. Music is being provided at the games by several members of the band under the direction of Miri am Davis. Members of the pep band are Frances Ross, Robert Smith, Yoder Whitley, Wayne Kimery, Elliott Gaddy, Jerry Cooper, Hubert Rogers, Bill Beek- er, Stephen Sasser, and Charles Richardson. Mr, R. C. Hatley introduces the players at the beginning of the boys’ game and continues an nouncing throughout the game. His helper is Charles James. The school is continuing its policy of admitting free the home room with the highest percent age over fifty per cent to the following home game. Call and Delivery Double Quartet Ensemble Chosen !• Twelve girls and eight boys were chosen by Mr. Paul Fry when he held try-outs for the Girls’ Ensemble and the Boys’ Double Quartet in January. The twelve girls who were chos en for the Girls’ Ensemble are as follows: sopranos, Joan Renger, Elaine Mills, Janis Westerlund, Jean Morgan, Susie Swaringen, and Arce Rose Rich; altos, Char lotte Pope, Elizabeth Tucker, Amorelle Tucker, Pat Allan, Sue' Rogers, and Frances Litaker. These girls are now practicing songs to sing at the Lions Club Ladies’ Night program on Febru ary 24, and the District Solo and Ensemble Contest on February 26. Those chosen for the Boys’ Double Quartet are: tenors, Bel- vin Terry, Kenneth Barbee, Ted Burleson, and Edward Hatley; basses, Charles James, Roger Saunders. Wade Smith, and Dickie Cashwell. This group sang in assembly during Spiritual Em phasis Week and will also sing for the Lions Club Ladies’ Night pro gram. L C. Those honored were Frances Litaker and Charles James. These students are chosen ac cording to citizenship, service to the school and community. For an undisclosed time two students will be picked weekly from the city or county schools to be honored in the News and Press. George Weaver (Cont. from Page 1, Col. 2) honor student as well as an out standing Boy Scout. His studies will be continued in the Page’s school in the Library of Congress and a portion of each day he will work as a page. George is one of seventy-five boys from all over the United States who will serve as pages. Three events are now schedule for the month of February, Dur ing the week-end of February \ about eight chorus members ar* going to the Mars Hill Clinic. Thf Boys’ Double Quartet, Girls’ Em semble. Girls’ Trio, and selected soloists will sing for the Lion! Club Ladies’ Night program o- February 24. Also the Districj Solo and Ensemble at Davidsoj College will be held on Februafi 26. On March 4, members of tW, chorus will participate in an as sembly program. Later the choruj will present a program at PfeU; fer College on March 10. Also ii; March they will go to the Distric Contest which is being held a‘ Catawba College in Salisbury.
