May, 1955 THE FULL MOON Page 3 Wizard Of Oz Reigns In Junior Prom Wonderland — a> WHO'S WHO Juniors and Seniors in vari colored formals and in tuxedos found themselves on Friday night, April 15, in the fairy-like land of the Wizard of Oz in the “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” theme used for the annual Junior- Senior prom. One of the most attractive dec orations was the revolving throne with balloon head of the “Wiz ard” atop a throne-chair. Several thousand balloons overhead gave the effect of millions of multi colored bubbles floating above the ballroom. Refreshments were served by the members of the Junior class. They consisted of rainbow cook ies, ice cream punch, and salted peanuts. Those attending danced about the wonderland to the music of the Kampus Kats of Lenoir Rhyne College. Chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kluttz, Mr. and Mrs. William Fitzgerald, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harris, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Lowder, and Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Greene. M^iss Lillian Misenheimer was the director of the prom. Church Contest Is Won By Benton Mr. Rex Benton’s homeroom won the church attendance con test, bringing their average church attendance from seventy- seventy per cent to eighty-eight per cent. By way of reward the home room is to be entertained by the Bible Club at a Ho-Bo party in the student lounge on Friday night. Everyone is requested to come dressed appropriately for a Ho-Bo convention. Lulabelle Smith and Vivian Smith are in charge of the party. This contest was sponsored by the Bible Club, with Miss Jean Abrahamsen as counselor. The runners up were Mrs. Fry’s and Miss Caughman’s home rooms. A chest X-ray can detect early tuberculosis. And The Upper Jaw Never Moved Pink bubbles, green bubbles,’ All colors of little troubles— It begins with working the jaws together As though the stuff were made of leather. And then when the going gets really rough And it seems the mej:^ will forever stay tough Pop! You’ve blown a bubble! Now chewing gum is all right, I guess If you have energy in excess, But how about the sleepy one Who never gets the homework done? You’d think he had no energy at all He stands as though he’s ready to fall When Pop! He’s blown a bubble! There’s jolly Johnny and sedate Sue And Sandra who’s married, and Jean Starr, too. And blushing Betty and dignified Dot And laughing Lonnie of whom we think a lot. There’s elusive Elaine and merry Marion And pretty Patsy and those thinking of marryin’ Pop! They’re all blowing bubbles! Now what would you think if you went into town To get a salesgirl to help you find an evening gown, Or if you tried to talk to an important big wheel To close a simply magnificent deal. Or if your teacher tried to help you do your work in school And in each case not the excep tion but the rule Was Pop! Each one blew a bubble? DONNIE SMITH He is good in his studies, out standing in athletics, and excels in dramatics. We are talking about Donnie Smith, one of the most versatile seniors at AHS. Athletics is the main thing in Donnie’s life. No matter what season, you’ll find him engaged in some kind of sport: fall, football; winter, basketball; spring, base ball. Although Donnie is noted for all three, he is most outstand ing in football, having been named All»-State by the Greensboro Daily News last fall. The senior play, the junior play, and “Not Tonight!” are just a few of the presentations in which Don nie has starred. He is very ac tive member of the Black Masque, Monogram and Boosters clubs. The Mixed Chorus, of which he has been a member for three years, would find it hard to do without his fine bass voice. Because of his impressive high school career, Donnie has been named Future Citizen, Student Lion, and has held many offices in the Hi-Y, including president, secretary, treasurer and chaplain, Donnie was also a delegate to the “Y” convention at Blue Ridge. Give this boy a plate of steak, French fries, and chocolate pie, and you’ll have a very happy Iwy, Any movie with either Burt Lan caster or Piper Laurie will have Donnie in its audience. The University of Georgia will be the lucky college that gets Donnie next year. Although we will miss him around AHS, we are sure his many abilities will be a valuable asset to Georgia.
