October, 1955 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Cheerers Sport New Uniiorms If you have ever come to any of the Albemarle High School football games, no doubt you have noticed eight “dabs” of blue and white turning and dancing around on the field. Of course they are the eight Albemarle cheerleaders. To get pep and to support the Bulldogs are the aims of these girls. The girls have new uniforms this year, given to them by the Albemarle Jaycettes. They are made up of blue and white pan- neled skirts lined in white flan nel. The sweaters are white turtle-neck with the “A” mon ogram in the center of the sweat er. The girls are dolled up in blue and white saddle oxfords. After the Kannapolis game, the cheerleaders sponsored a dance for all who wanted to come. With the proceeds, they bought a microphone, amplifiers, and had a platform built to use to direct yells at the football games. The Albemarle team is un beaten, while Monroe has won over Mooresville 7-6 and Winecoff 27-0, but lost to China Grove 12-6 and to Concord 13-12. posts painted blue and white, with the help of Paul Frick, a senior at Albemarle High, and putting the football yells in the Jaycee football program. The cheering squad this year consists of' Zalotta Harris, chief; Barbara Holt, Sandra Poplin, Jan ice Westerlund, Myrna Mills, Bar bara Burleson, Diane Watkins, and Sara Henderson. Bullpups got off to a fast start by defeating the Concord B-team 33 to 0 in the first game of the season. . The Bullpups were led on of fense by Drip Kimrey, Roger Smith, Joe Miller, and Wood Dur- harn. The strong defense was led by Wayne Spivey and Don Montgom ery. Richardson has fitted each of the 37 football players with a rubber mouth piece de signed by the University of North Carolina, Each player had to have an impression of his mouth made. The boys went to Dr. Richardson’s office, a few each day, until all of them had had an impression made. The boys helped him make the mouth pieces by coming to the home economics room of the high school for two nights. The first night they painted the im pressions with a liquid rubber and put them in the ovens to cure. The curing required 24 hours. The team returned to the school the next night to trim the mouth pieces and then they were ready for use. The Bulldogs have used the mouth pieces in recent games and report they are very satis factory. F. & M. COFFEE CO.
