Page 6 THE FULL MOON October 6, 1961 Fry's Senior Choral Group Organizes, Makes Plans Changes have been made and activities have been planned in the music department of ASHS. The name oi Senior Mixed Cho rus has been changed to Senior Choir. This group consists of 60 boys and girls from the Jun ior and Senior classes. Activities for Senior Choir this year include singing engage ments at various civic clubs and churches, as well as the annual Christmas and spring concerts. Among the events in which the choir will participate will be the state choral festival at Greens boro, the Mars Hill choral clinic, and the district choral contest held at ASHS. Selected students will go to Davidson to participate in the regional solo and ensemble contests. Committee chairmen and mem bers have been chosen. The com mittees and their chairmen are as follows: Publicity, Frances Sides; Social and Hospitality, Steve Burleson and Brenda Mor ris; Robe, Rebecca Swaringen; Stage Arrangement, Danny Da vis; Transportation, Bob Rich ards; Phone, Sheila Harris; Scrap book, Pauline Furr; and Library, Chuck Miller. Accompanists are Jane Boaz and Sherry Pegram. In addition to the Senior Choir, there is a Mixed Chorus com posed of tenth grade students. This group meets Monday, Wed nesday, and Friday, alternating with physical education. A general music class is held two days a week. This class is primarily concerned with listen ing to music and records, and studying different types of music. Special attention is being given to music of the community, the state, and the nation. Seniors Placing Orders For Cards Starting early on graduation preparations, the Senior Class be gan ordering calling cards dur ing the first month of school. Each Senior homeroom secre tary is in charge of the sales in her room. The cards, arriving in the middle of November, will come in a variety of styles and engravings. Every Senior was urged to buy calling cards through the class, because the Senior Class at A.S. H.S. will receive one-half the profits of the sale. These cards will be used in graduation announcements next spring. It is customary, too, for Seniors to exchange cards with their classmates. Homecoming Set For October 20 October 20 is the date that has been set by the Boosters Club as Homecoming. Complete plans will be announced later, but the present schedule includes a dance after the Rockingham game that, evening. Boosters Club has elected of ficers, secured advisors, and made plans. Mrs. Gamewell and Miss Thom as were selected as advisors, and the club of 154 members elected Janice Hearne, president; Judy Starnes, vice-presrdent; Ricky Watch The Sound Wee went to a futball game the uther daye, And pawzed to tary along the waye. Jeff Underwood and Rowena Kluttz represented the high school at the Student Council Workshop held at Boone. From June 31 to August 4 the two stu dents learned about the purposes and functions of the Student Council. Accompanying them was Mrs. Bess Young, advisor to the Council. Barbara Doby and Sherry Peg ram spent the second week in June at Girls’ State in Greens boro, while Edward Lowder and Jeff Underwood attended Boys’ State in Chapel Hill during the week that followed. At their re spective locations, these boys and girls widened their knowledge about organized political parties and government, from the city to the state. Margaret Allred attended a one-week session at the Civitan Youth Conference at Wildacres. Human relations, under the head ings of individual, religious, com munity, and social, formed the topic of discussion.
