Is Off To Good Start Each of the thirty-two students enrolled in the Distributive Edu cation Class at A.S.H.S this year is employed in some phase of re tailing, marketing, or distribu tion. This year D. E. II, which in cludes nine more subjects, was added to the curriculum. These nine subjects, taught under the heading of retailing, consist of Speech Psychology, Salesman ship II, Advertising II, Window Display, Business Services, lead ership courses, job analyses, eco nomics of distribution, and com mercial law. Plans to attend the District meeting at Kannapolis on No vember 8 are now in the making. The Deca Club is in the Western District along with nine other schools. Last year the District meeting was where Martha Bur leson started her climb to suc cess. The Deca Club has elected the following officers: Wayne Maun- ey, president; Jimmy Watson, vice-president; Slyvia Kluttz, sec retary; Judy Laton, treasurer; Joyce Smith, historian; and Lana Turner, editor promotion man ager. An invitation is extended to each student to visit the D. E. classroom. Merchandise, a life- size manikin modeling the latest styles of clothing, and a 9x4x2 display case are among the many items on display. Merchandise has been loaned to the class by managers of retail stores who are co-operating viath the D. E. pro gram. Librarians Are Preparing Books Mrs. Harrison and her new li brary assistants have been busy preparing new and rebound books for the library shelves since the opening of school. The library staff has prepared several rebound books and about 85 new books since school opened. These books feature a variety of subjects, including sci ence, math, foreign language, fic tion, travel, geography, history, and literature. Helping Mrs. Harrison in the li brary this year are Brenda Cran ford, Lenora Cranford, Wayne Cranford, Doris Eudy, Judy Grif fin, Drinda Harley, Janet Honbar- rier, Judy Huneycutt, Joan Lam bert, Sharon Lane, Sylvia Pinion, Susan Snotherly, Joyce Terry, De- lores Thompson, Wanda Tucker Linda Whitley, and Wanda Wil liams. These students are in the library not only to help Mrs. Harrison but also to assist other students in finding any material which they might need. Page 7 4 Delegates Will Attend Congress Albemarle Senior High v/ill be represented at the annual Student Council Congress to be held in Fayetteville, October 22-24, by delegates Jeff Underwood, Ray mond Earnhardt, “Dink” Morton and Rowena Kluttz. Along with Mrs. Young, Student Council advisor, exchange student Marie Ruffat will also go to Fay etteville as an unofficial delegate Attending the Student Council Congress will be delegates from the various schools to exchange ideas on ways to promote the ef ficiency of the student council., Jeff Underwood will lead one of the discussion groups. His group will discuss as its topic, “The Organization of a New Stu dent Council.” Other groups will have different topics for discussion on subjects such as ways to make money and the planning of ser vice projects. Delegates will attend a one- hour class each day. Additional features of the Congress will be a banquet and an informal dance to be held during the two-day pe riod. The Workshop, held every year on the campus of the University, is under the direction of Dr. Lara Hoggard. Mr. Paul B. Fry, head of the music department at A.S. H.S., again served as secretary for the Workshop.
