Page 4 THE FULL MOON Dec. 14, 1971 AWARDS Bulldogs Compile Classic Record Requirements for Certificates And Letter Jackets (The following is a news release from the athletic department) A certificate for the first sport and a letter jacket for the second sport regardless of number of years. Athletes and Managers participating in the Junior Varsity sports program shall be eligible for a certificate only. In football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling the athletes that participate in one-half of quarters, innings, or matches, and with recommendation of coach. Track athletes scoring 15 points on a 5, 3, 2, 1, basis and with the recommendation of coach. Tennis athletes would be the top six and recommendation of coach. Golf athletes would be the top four and recommendation of coach. Managers shall serve in two sports for a letter jacket, or one sport for two years. Seniors who have participated three years in the same sport upon recommendation of coach, shall receive a letter jacket. Any special situation will be reviewed by the Principal, Athletic Director and coach involved in that sport. Athletes shall receive certificates and letter jackets at the annual Sports Banquet. All Coaches will adhere to these regulations beginning with the 1971- 72 school year. Committee members: Kenneth Frazier Bill West Charles Swanner Vernon Lentz Warren Hawkins Tuesday night, November 23, Coach Ken Frazier’s Bulldogs opened the 1971-72 cage season with a 71-43 victory over the South Stanly Rebels. The victory came on the first night of play in the Stanly County Qassic at West. Albemarle jumped to a 21-5 first quarter lead and never trailed during the contest. Doug Owens and Mark Andrew led a balanced scoring attack with 13 and 12 points, respec tively. Harry Miller and Ed Brinson keyed the ’dogs defense, which forced South Stanly into numerous turnovers. The Stanly County Classics opened with the Bulldogettes, coached by Jo Bogle, whipping the South Stanly Rebelettes, 43- 16, in the first game of their ’71-72 season. Tricaptains, Martha Talbert, Teena Lewis, and Ginny Deese, led the scoring with 34 of the 43 points. Talbert was high scorer with 15 markers, seven field goals, and one free throw. Lewis was second with 10, three goals and four free throws. Ginny Deese scored nine points, two goals, and five free throws, for the third scoring position. Leading the Rebelettes, Anita Howard and Nell Howell gar nered five points each, Howard on five trips to the line and Howell with 2 baskets and a free throw. Coach Frazier’s Bulldogs won their second game of the season by defeating the West Stanly Colts, 60-52, Friday, November 26, at West Stanly. Mark Andrew paced the Albemarle offense with 17 points. Doug Owens added 16 points and Harry Miller tossed in 12 as the Bulldogs came from behind to win. The final night of the Qassics pitted the Bulldogettes against the Fillies of West Stanly. Albemarle scored again with a 40-27 victory. Teena Lewis, Ginny Deese, and Martha Talbert paced the ’dogettes with 15, 10 and 8 points respectively. Crystal Waller scored seven to round off the final tally. Rose Burnette and Phyllis Sturdivant led the scoring for the Fillies with six markers each. Marilyn Smith and Teresa Burris gained five each for the second position. The Bulldogettes made 22 of 28 free throws for 78.5 percent.
