Bulldogs Grab Three In A Row

The Bulldogs gained their
third straight conference vic
tory with a 41-6 win over
Lexington, Friday night, Octo
ber 20 at Lexington.
Myron Harrington scored the
first Bulldog touchdown on a
ful run for the extra point,
making the final score 41-6.
Outstanding offensive players
were Myron Harrington with
118 yards on 22 carries and
Darryl Ellis with 97 yards on
three carries.
Defensively, the outstanding
players were Ernest Smith with
11 tackles and Lew Smith with
10 tackles.
to the 15 yard line and lateraled
to Darryl Ellis who raced 85
yards down the left sideline to
tie the score at 13 all. A key
block by Eddie Burris aided
Ellis on his exciting run.
Joe Alley’s extra point proved
to be the winning margin.
Lew Smith led outstanding
defensive effort with 15 tackles.
Mike Smith followed with nine.
Harrington, and behind good
blocking, Harrington ran into
the end zone for six points. The
try for two failed.
The score at half-time was
Albemarle 12-South Rowan 0.
At the beginning of the third
quarter, Ernest Smith picked
off a Raider pass and raced 78
yards to score the third Bulldog
touchdown. The try for two
failed.
‘Hounds Bite
Dogs, 20-0
The Bulldogs completed their
season with a 20-0 loss to
Statesville Friday night at the
local stadium.
Statesville scored in the
middle of the first quarter when

two yard plunge. An intercepted
pass by Mike Smith set up the
score. Joe Alley’s extra point
was good.
Albemarle’s second score
came on a 34 yard pass from
Bobby Daurity to Joe Watkins.
Alley’s extra point was blocked.
At this point the Dogs led, 13-0.
Lexington’s only score came
early in the second quarter on a
two yard run by Harold
Peoples.
Harrington scored again late
in the second quarter on a one
yard run culminating a 59 yard
drive. The score at the half was
19-6.
Neither team sustained a
successful drive in the third
quarter.
The ‘Dogs began to pick up
momentum in the fourth
quarter with another Myron
Harrington score followed by an
electrifying 74 yard run by
Darryl Ellis.
The fired up Bulldog defense
contributed to the victory when
Jeff Redwine recovered a
Yellow Jacket fumble in the end

Past Spiders
Coach George Wheeler’s
Bulldogs won their second
straight conference battle,
slipping past Concord 14-13,
Friday night, October 13, at the
Junior High School stadium.
The Bulldogs jumped to a 7-0
lead early in the first quarter on
a one yard run by Myron
Harrington and Joe Alley’s
extra point. A 29 yard pass from
Bobby Daurity to Joe Watkins
set up the touchdown.
Concord struck back on a 15
yard touchdown pass from
Tracy Tomlin to Jerry Ledbet
ter. Ronnie Moose kicked the
point after, deadlocking the
score at 7-7.
Following a scoreless third
quarter. Concord’s Lynn De
Berry scooped up a fumble and
rambled 23 yards for the score.
Moose’s extra point attempt
was wide to the left.
On the following kickoff
Myron Harrington received the
ball at the five yafd line. He ran
Ernest Smith and Darryl Ellis
each picked off a Concord pass.
Defense Shines
As Raiders Fall
The Bulldogs gained their
second conference victory over
the Raiders of South Rowan by
the score of 32-6, October 6, at
the South Rowan stadium.
The ’Dogs first score came
when Darryl Ellis dashed 5
yards. Ellis seemed to be
trapped behind the line of
scrimmage, but he eluded two
Raider defenders and went into
the end zone. The extra point
was no good.
With 30 seconds left in the
half, Bobby Daurity threw an 11
yard screen pass to Myron
South Rowan’s only score
came in the third quarter when
Steve Patterson ran eight yards
in the end zone. The try for two
was no good.
The ’Dogs scored again in the
third quarter when Bobby
Daurity connected with Darryl
Ellis for a 74 yard pass for the
.score. Joe Alley’s kick for the
extra point was good.
Albemarle’s final score came
when Bobby Daurity threw a
ten yard pass to Darryl Ellis.

final score was Albemarle
32-South Rowan 6.

’Dogs was Lew Smith with 17
tackles. Myron Harrington was
the leading ground gainer with
105 yards in 14 carries.

The Greyhounds’ second
score came with four minutes
left in the half. Rodney
Harrelson scored on a one yard
run. Ogburn’s kick was good.
Mark Ogburn scored the
Greyhounds’ final touchdown on
a one ^ard run. The try after

The Bulldogs’ deepest drive
was to the Greyhound 13 yard
line. Lew Smith led the Bulldog
offense with 60 yards in 17
carries.

son, and Jeff Redwine each
recovered Greyhound fumbles.
Lew Smith led the defense with
15 tackles.
The Bulldogs finished fourth
place In the South Piedmont
Conference, with a 6-4 overall
record.
Player Of The Week Honored
J. V. Displays Bulldog Spirit
The Junior Varsity lost their
season opener to Asheboro,
36-12, in a game that showed a
lack of timing on the part of the
team.
A similar performance was
given in their second game
where they lost 38-12 to
Salisbury.
In the third game the ’Dogs
gathered themselves up and
pulled off a 12-0 upset over
Kannapolis. That game showed
how enthusiasm and a will to
win will help a team’s
performance.
The Bulldogs let Thomasville
slip by them in a 10-8 decision in
their fourth game. This game
should have been won by the
JVs, but they didn’t show the
will to win, exhibited In the
previous game.
In their fifth game, the ’Dogs
returned to the type of football
they played the first two games.
They dropped a 34-12 decision to
South Rowan.
In their sixth, and what was to
be their final game, the
Bulldogs came back with a 14-7
win over Concord. That made
their season’s record 2-4.
Some of the outstanding
players were William Brown
and Ricky Hamilton who gained
substantial yardage In most of
the games. Steve Harrington
filled the quarterback position
and performed well.
The defensive unit was led by
linebackers Allan Morton and
Steve Harris and a strong
defensive line.

The three players of the week
against South Rowan were
Myron Harrington, Darryl Ellis
and Curtis Paschold.
A senior, Myron made one
touchdown and gained 105 yards
on 14 carries.
At the position of offensive
right guard, Curtis Paschold, a
senior, also was one of the
players of the week. At his
offensive right guard position,
Curtis handled South Rowan’s
star linebacker. Paschold relat
ed, “The strong points of the
game were the offense along
with the outstanding defensive
efforts which held the Raiders
scoreless until the last seconds
of the game.”
Darryl Ellis was the third
player of the week from the
offense. Darryl scored three
touchdowns, catching one 74
yard pass, one 10 yard pass, and
running five yards for another.
A senior who plays the position
of flanker, Ellis stated, “We had
a lot of hustle and desire to
win.”
One of the three defensive
players of the week against
South Rowan was Jimmy Cain,
a junior playing defensive end
and making eight tackles.
Concerning the game Cain
stated, “South Rowan had a lot
of sore offensive backs after the
game.”
Jeff Redwine was a defensive
player of the week also.
Redwine, a senior, was in on
nine tackles.
Redwine related, “We’re
going to win the rest of our
games if the defense remains
strong and the offense Im
proves.” According to Jeff the
strong point of the defense is the
defensive end.
Lew Smith, a senior lineback
er made 16 tackles, helping the
Bulldogs to a victory over South
Rowan.
When asked if Lew planned to
play college football, Lew
stated, “Yes, I have a football
scholarship to Stanly Tech.”
Myron Harrington was the
offensive player of the week
against Thomasville. Myron
scored one touchdown, gained
68 yards on 17 carries, and
caught five passes.
When asked to comment on
the game Harrington stated,
“We stunk.”
David Denning received play
er of the week honors following
the Thomasville game.
David, a sophomore, plays
one of the inside linebackers for
the Bulldogs.
He gained nine tackles during
his outstanding performance.
David Is the second sopho
more earning this honor. When
asked how he felt about being
chosen he admitted, "It makes
me feel good and want to work
hard the rest of the year.”
Darryl Ellis received offen
sive player of the week against
Concord.
Darryl scored the winning
touchdown, an 85 yard kickoff
return.
Mike Smith was one of the two
defensive players of the week
against Concord.
Mike, a junior, was in on nine
tackles. According to Mike, the
strong point of the defense is the
whole defensive line.
When asked his opinion of the
prospects of the team in the
future Smith related, “Even
though there are only two
games left our team’s going to
continue playing with enthusi
asm.”
Lew Smith was the other
defensive player of the week.
He was in on 15 tackles.
