Band Accepts Invitation The marching band accepted an invitation to attend the Shrine Bowl football game in Charlotte December 2. Perry Montgomery and John Frederick were crowned Home coming “Queens” Friday, Nov ember 10, at the Powder Puff Football game. Four old members delivered speeches on the major characteristics of the Pigskin Club Elects Officers The new officers of the Albemarle Pigskin Club accep ted their duties at the Football Banquet Thursday, November 9. Mr. Ian Bryson, the outgoing president, installed new offi cers: Mr. Dallas Durham, president; Mr. Tom Alley, vice- president; Mrs. George Lee, Secretary; and the Rev. B. J. Ferguson, treasurer. Other outgoing officers are Mr. John Denning, vice-presi dent, and Mrs. Warren Haw kins, secretary. The club met Tuesday night in the cafeteria and viewed the films of the football games. At the end of the tapping, the new members signed the regis ter in tapped order and Kim Woodruff, secretary, called the roll. The Modern Music Masters Society inducted eleven new members Thursday, November 9. The new members are John Baugh, Arlesa Daniels, Crystal Waller, Janet Lefler, Bain Jones, Nita Clayton, Jenell Hudson, Gina Morris, Lisa Roberts, Lynn Snuggs, and David Teal. Upon completion of their apprentice period, the inductees took a test on the Constitution and By-laws of the Society. Bain Jones performed a piano solo. “Lara’s Theme” ' from Dr. Zhivago. Next, Gina Morris, Lisa Lew Smith will represent Stanly County in the district Morehead competition this year. He was selected for this honor November 6 by the Stanly County Morehead Committee. Lew was one of the four nominees from our school in the local competition. Sammy Fer guson, David Bryson, and Myron Harrington were the others. The John Motley Morehead Awards are among the most prestigious in North Carolina. The scholarship pays $2,250.00 per year during the recipient’s Mr. Fred Morgan, author of Ghost Tales of the Uwharries, spoke to Miss Misenheimer’s fourth period English class about the supernatural Novem ber 7. Mr. Morgan opened the dis cussion and answered quest ions. He thinks ghosts are spirits caught between the physical and spiritual worlds. According to Mr. Morgan, spirits can possess a body, but usually the person possessed is psychic. He told the class about spirit communication dreams, and precognition. As for reincarnation, he stated that he didn’t believe the spirit could develop fully in one lifetime, so it may go from person to - person, sometimes skipping a thousand years, sometimes five years between lives. Roberts and Lynn Snuggs formed an ensemble and per formed “Joy,” by J.S. Bach, on the flute, piano, and oboe, respectively. Jenell Hudson played a piano solo, “Summer of ’42,” by Michel Legrand. David Teal and Irelou Easley forming a trumpet and piano duet, played “Psalm XIX,” by Benedetto Marscello. Following the inductees’ per formance, club members dis cussed plans for Christmas Caroling and for attending the performance of the Singing Christmas Tree. undergraduate study at UNC- CH. The scholarship is based upon the student’s capacity to lead, scholastic ability, extra-curri cular activities, and physical vigor as shown by participation In sports. Lew has played football at Senior High for three years, and currently holds the school record in the discus throw. He is a member of the Student Council, the Monogram Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Lew is interested in a career in the field of education. Before he left, Mr. Morgan was convinced that some stu dents were psychic. He reques ted that if anyone had a psychic experience to contact him immediately.
