of 5-4. Singles winners were
Kathy Riley, Stephanie Pollard,
Susan McDonald, Sarah Burris,
and Allison Karam. Patti Good
man again won her extra match.
This brought the team to an over
all record of 5:2.
Coach Pollard stated that she
has been very pleased with the
girls’ play and attitude, and that
she feels they have done an excel
lent job in representing Al
bemarle High School. The season
ended on October 25 with a con
ference tournament at Wingate.
Play will continue with the sec
tional tournament to begin in
November.
After seven ball games the
Bulldogs have a record of two
wins and five losses. Albemarle
has played tough defensively the
whole year. A few injuries have
hurt the team.
At the midway point of the sea
son their record stood at two wins
and three losses. These two wins
included a victory at East Rowan
and one at West Stanly. The vic
tory at East Rowan proved to be
one of Albemarle’s best played
games this season.
East Rowan had two of the top
running backs in the conference.
The “Real Dogs” defense stop
ped them pretty well. The score
at the end of the first half was
Albemarle seven, East Rowan
six. Albemarle’s touchdown
came on a forty-five yard touch
down pass from Mack Morgan to
Chico Lilly. Dale Speight kicked
the extra point. The defense
didn’t play quite as tough the first
half as they did the second half.
In the second half the “Real
Dogs” came out and played a
very tough defensive game. East
Rowan never could get the ball
moving against the “Mad Dog”
defense. The Bulldogs opened
their margin over East Rowan by
a score of 14-6. This came from an
eleven yard touchdown run by
Chico Lilly. Dale Speight kicked
the extra point. East Rowan
jumped back late in the third
quarter and made the score 14-12.
Both of their extra point attempts
were no good.
For the last five minutes of the
ball game the “Real Dogs” de
fense was backed up into their
own territory. They played an ex
tremely tough defensive game to
prevent East Rowan from scor
ing. Some of the penalties also
hurt the Bulldogs. After holding
off East Rowan on fourth down
from the three yard line the ball
was turned over to Albemarle.
Albemarle had the ball for twenty
seconds. The final score was
Albemarle 14, East Rowan 12.

In the victory over East Rowan, Chico Lilly was named of
fensive player and Dave Moose was named as defensive player.
Bobby Gaskin and Dave Moose received the offensive and the
defensive award respectively against Forest Hills.
Albemarle’s offense moves the ball.
The
sixth game of the season
was the Bulldog’s Homecoming
game. Albemarle met the state-
ranked Forest Hills team for
their homecoming game. Forest
Hills beat the Bulldogs by a pret
ty wide margin. The final score
was 36-0.
This was one of the worst
played games by the Bulldogs
this season. Many errors cost
them the game. Albemarle had
four punts blocked in this game.
Forest Hills led the Bulldogs at
half time by a score of 14-0.
The second half didn’t prove to
be any better for the Bulldogs as
they had three more touchdowns
scored against them. A couple of
late fourth quarter drives were
put together by Albemarle’s of
fense. It was too late for a drive
that far along in the game. Forest
Hills won the game by a score of
36-0.
The seventh game of the season
was played at Concord. Concord
came out on top of this game by a
score of 20-6.
The first half of the game was a
defensive battle. The score at the
end of the first half was 0-0. Albe
marle moved the ball pretty well
offensively. The Bulldogs defense
held the Concord Spiders to low
yardage during the first half.
The second half started out
right for the Bulldogs. Albemarle
drove the ball across the Concord
goal line to get on the board first.
The drive lasted for almost half
of the third quarter. Eddie
Snuggs carried the ball over for
the score. The extra point at
tempt was no good.
Albemarle’s 6-0 lead didn’t last
long. Concord scored in the same
quarter to put them ahead by a
score of seven to six.
The Bulldogs were shut down in
the fourth quarter. Concord
scored two more touchdowns to
put them ahead by a score of 20-6.
The Bulldogs put together
another drive late in the game,
but fumbled on Concord’s twenty
yard line. The Bulldog’s never re
gained possession of the ball after
they fumbled.
The Bulldogs record stands at
two wins and five losses. They
have three games left in the sea
son. The most important of the
last three includes the North
Stanly game played on Hallo
ween night this year.

Challenge
Seniors
We, the Junior class, challenge
the inferior Senior class of Albe
marle High School to participate
in the massacre of your class.
Since the Junior class wants to
give you a fair chance, we have
decided to omit violence (if possi
ble), and prove our superiority on
the field of athletic competition.
We propose on the day of
November 13, 1980, at 7:00 p.m.,
that the Senior class (if they are
brave enough) meet the Junior
class in a game of football to
proye once and for all that the
Junior class reigns supreme!
