Band wraps up season
The Albemarle Senior High
Marching Bulldog Band wrapped
up the 1982 marching season by
competing in the Forbush March
ing Band Festival Saturday,
October 30. All of the hard work
finally paid off. Although the
band received a “good” rating,
they brought home four trophies
and a feeling of accomplishment.
The flag squad received a second
place trophy and a superior score
of 85.5. Independence High School
won first place with a score of
86.5. The rifle squad also received
a second place trophy with a
superior score of 85.5. Myers
Park took first place with a score
of 86.0. The drum majors receiv
ed a first place trophy with a
superior score of 88.0. Myers
Park won second place with an
excellent score of 72.0. The drum
line received a high excellent
score of 79.
The band has worked extreme
ly hard this season and they
deserve a great deal of apprecia
tion. Every band member’s ef
forts are to be commended. Mr.
Hedrick has set aside several im
portant dates for the near future.
They have been invited to the
Salisbury Christmas parade, held
November 24. They will be judg
ed in colorguard (drum majors.
Council Stays Busy
The ASH 1982 Student Council
has been working diligently since
the beginning of the school year.
Their first major project was the
school-wide magazine sale which
helped add approximately $900 to
the council’s treasury. The first
dance of the year was held on
September 17 after the Mount
Pleasant game. “Infinity” the
featured band, was backed up by
a juke box. There was a suc
cessful turnout and many stu
dents expressed interest in more
dances. For the first time, the
Student Council sponsored a con
cert following the homecoming
game. “Freedom Jam” gave a
dynamic performance that
everyone enjoyed.
At the last meeting of the coun
cil, many upcoming events were
discussed such as a movie for all
students, which will be shown
before Christmas. Presently,
plans are being made for the
location and layout of the picnic
table areas. During this next
month. Student Council members
will go to work reviewing and
revising the Blue-White Student
Handbook. This project will re
quire a great deal of time and
work but should be a valuable
resource for information on
school rules and club require
ments. It will also include an up
dated account of ASH history. A
new proposal concerning school
board meetings was discussed by
the council. They unanimously
voted in favor of sending two
representatives from our council
to observe the monthly meetings
of the school board. This would
enhance communication between
adults and students who together
are involved in creating a better
school system. Finally, it was an
nounced that a suggestion box be
placed in the office for the conve
nience of all. Students who have
suggestions to be discussed by
the council are encouraged to
take advantage of this opportuni
ty-
flags, and rifles) and, music, and
marching performance. They
will also march in the Albemarle
Christmas Parade on November
29. The 1982 Christmas Concert is
December 16, and the concert
season contest*will be on March
18 at the South Central District
Band Contest. Finally, a trip to
Florida will be May 5, 6, 7, and 8.
In Florida, they will compete in a
jazz band contest, a concert con
test, and possibly a marching
contest. Congratulations, band,
on having such a successful
marching season, and thanks for
representing ASHS the way you
have.
Attention
A representative from
the North Carolina
School of Science and
Mathematics will be
in the library at 10:30
a.m. on Friday, De
cember 3rd. Doug
Spain will meet with
students and parents
to answer any ques
tions about admis
sions procedures.
Parents Volunteer Services
By LORI MCDONALD
In April of 1982, plans began for
a volunteer program entitled
“Enriching Education Through

Boosters, and Athletic Boosters.
The volunteers working at Albe
marle Senior High are mothers of
some of the students here.
The program has been divided
up into sessions. The first session
took place over a period of six
weeks, beginning on October 4
and ending on November 10. The
second session will take place
over a period of four weeks, be
ginning on November 22 and end

will be the third session and from
February 28 to March 30 will be
the fourth session. The fifth and
final session of the 1982-83 school
year will begin on April 18 and
end on May 27. During these ses
sions, the volunteer parents will
come to the school for one day a

during the school day as they de
sire.
