Receive Top Honors
Two seniors, Brett Richards and Matt Lowder
-have been named valedictorian and salutatorian,
^^spectively. Jonathan Brett Richards has ex-
^®lled in academics, as well as in band and
^^nnis. He is also a recipient of the North Caro
lina Savings and Loan League Scholarship and
^iCe-president of the National Honor Society.
attended Governor’s School East during the
^'ttnmer of 1989, and he is amember of the North
^arolina Governor’s Task Force on Excellence
Secondary Education. Brett will attend UNC
^®xt year and major in business.
Matthew Everette Lowder has also excdled
^ his four years here at Albemarle. As president
the National Honor Society, Matt has proven
u^elf a valuable member of our senior class,
a 3-year letterman in tennis, he played #1
the team this year and received All-Confer-
®^ce honors. He also attended many camps
^oughout the summer including Summer Ven-
in 1988, SITE (Student Introduction to
Engineering) at State in 1989, and SPEC (South-
Piedmont Educational Consortium) at
atawba in 1989. Matt will attend N.C. State
next year and major in engineering.

B. Richards, valedictorian, class of1990
The 1990 graduation ceremonies will be held
in the Agri-Civic Center on Thursday, June 7 at
8:00 P.M. Diane Brooks, senior class vice-pr-
isident, will deliver the invocation, and, after Dr.
Bryce Cumming’s welcoming address, she will
introduce the special guest speaker. Lt. Governor
Jim Gardner. After Lt. Govemor Gardner’s
address. Principal W. K. Morgan will introduce
the student speakers: Tommy Lockamy, senior
class president; Matt Lowder, salutatorian; and
Brett Richards, valedictorian. After these
speeches, Mr, Taylor and Mr. Furr will present
awards and introduce the senior choral students,
who will sing the class song “Dream With Me.”
Following this special music, senior class offi
cers Beth Childress and Holli Brafford will call
the names of the seniors. Mr. Ron Swanner,
chaimtan of Albermarle.City School Board, and
Br. Bryce Ciunmings, Superintendent, will pres
ent the seniors their diplomas. Led by chief
marshal, Kevin Muse, the marshals hope to
conduct a memorable graduation ceremony.
