BRBBP Poll of the Month
With college basketball approaching quickly, we here at BRBBP headquarters think the
nation would like to know what the basketball experts, mainly Marsh and myself, say about the
upcoming season. Obviously the Runnin’ Rebs of UNLV are the preseason favorite because
of the thrasing they gave the Duke Blue Devils in last years' NCAA Championship Game. (W e
really don’t think it matters that the Devils are now 0-4 when making it to the Final Four because
obviously they don’t have what it takes to win the big one.) However, that has no bearing on
our decision because the Rebs lost only one player.
1. UNLV - The Running Rebels could surely repeat, but won’t get the opportunity due to
sanctions passed by the NCAA.
2. Arkansas - Todd Daye and Lee Mayberry displayed their scoring talents in this year’s
Goodwill Games.
3. Arizona - After having an excellent year last year, the Wildcats have everyone back.
4. Georgetown - With Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo, John Thompson has a
powo’house from the Big East
5. North Carolina - A question mark because of the inexperience of the team but hey, we had
to put an ACC team in the top five and Carolina deserves the billing.
So, with all the parity in college basketball, the upcoming year should be most memorable-
because of the competitiveness and intercollegiate rivalries.
Shattered Dreams
The hearts of all UVA fans are now broken and their national championship dream is
shattered by the 41-38 loss to Georgia Tech on November 4. With the weak schedule Virginia
has, the loss to the Yellow Jackets should be too much for the Cavs to overcome. Sure they can
still play on New Year’s Day, but not for the national championship as they had aspired for. Too
bad their dream of being #1 in the nation was so shortlived, but truthfully, did they deserve the
top spot among the nations elite? It sure doesn’t look that way no w, as the AP poll dropped them
all the way to #11 after the loss!
Hot Hornets?
The Charlotte Hornets are off to a great start as compared with the past few seasons. Having
had a very respectable preseason, the Hornets opened the 1990-91 season with a 130-134
overtime loss to the N.Y. Knicks. They had a strong showing again, as they had beaten the
Knicks in the week prior to the game. At press time the record is (3 - 5 ) and the team is looking
good as they prepare for the long stretch of the season. This is the time in which a team has to
play for future position in the standings and try to set a pace to lead themselves to the playoffs.
Who knows what might happen this season?!?!
Flat Cold "Busted"
We have to pause and say congratulations to Evander Holyfield on winning the Heavyweight
Championship of the World. We knew he would win anyway. We might add that he has now
chosen to fight George Foreman, thus bumping Mike Tyson out of his contract with Foreman
and puttin him up against Douglas again. Now we’ll find out if Tyson still has the “stuff’! Be
looking for these two fights in the early spring of 1991.
Rosalind Garmon and Missy Cline look
forward to trips to Chapel HIM.

The indoor track season is already imder-
way but with the first meet still yet to be run the
Albemarle squad is some what of a question mark.
Mrs. Maske says that she expects large numbers
this year so the team can be quite comp)etitive.
However, indoor track schools aren’t split into
lA, 2A, 3A, and 4A classifications so all com
pete on the same level. Needless to say, compe
tition is very stiff. With the nearest indoor track
located in Chapel Hill, the team will be doing
quite a bit oftraveling, making the trek at least 4
to S times. Upon talking to former all-state
indoor track runner Palmer Brown, I learned that
indoor is very rough since the track is so small
and the turns are very sharply banked. The
smaller, shorter runner definitely has an advan
tage over the stereotypical long and lanky nmner,
while the stronger runner has an edge on the
smaller, weaker runner. So in the long run, the
advantages favor both types. This year’s Bull
dog squad hopes to have 25 girls, 12 of whom are
returning lettermen. The boys, who haven’t had
a team meeting yet, hope to have anywhere from
10 to 25 runners. With the great expectations this
year’s team holds, the indoor track season hopes
to be the best yet
Wanted: @?*! Raisers

Attention AHS students! A monster is run
ning rampant in our school. This is not a new
creature, but through out the years, it has grown
and become more powerful. A selective group of
individuals have tried to battle this monster,
without success. This terrible beast takes the
average student and sucks the very essence out
of the teenager. It drains a little known, but very
important fiuid, out of a gland that is technically
known as the "Raizious Hellous" gland and the
fluids it gives off promote school spirit
Face it, except for the band at the football
games, Albemarle’s school spirit sucks! This
school is made of some of the craziest, fun
loving, sons-of-bisquet eaters to roam Stanly
Coimty, and we are dead. I hear complaints on
how our pep-rallies are only 15 minutes, but how
can they give us more time when we don’t do
anything? A group of about 30 students react
with spirit
Now that we know the jwoblem, what can we
do about it? Well, although there is no set
formula for school spnrit attendance by students
would be nice. When you have a gym as small as
Albemarle, and you can'teven fill it up, there are
major problems. If we can get people to the
games, everything next is easy. All you have to
do is go wild.
Everybody has that little bit of animal in them
that needs to be released. It's better to do this at
a wrestling meet or basketball game it front of
your friends than in front of strange people who
will think you are weird for the rest of eternity.
Do come on, have a ball. Tlirow your self-
control out the window; it’s fun. Youcanbelieve
me; I know because I have done it many times.
Make opposing teams hate coming to Albemarle.
The spotting teams call for you.
Down ... Set... Broken Fingernail... But Seniors Prevail!
By Shelly Austin
Once again the juniors met the seniors in a
friendly but competitve game of football. Both
teams prepared extensively for the game with all
of three days of practice before the game day. On
the night of Nov3, both teams were on the field
at 6:30 finalizing their game plays. As the game
got under way, the seniors took an early lead with
Rachel Kendall handing the ball off to Wyvonia
Hamilton. The score at this time was 6-0. Near
the end of the first half Wyvonnia ran the ball for
another touchdown. At half time the score was
Seniors 12 and Juniors 0. In the last half of the
game Oshi Simms ran the ball for the seniors to
win the ballgame 18-0. The seniors played a
great game on offense as well as defense. Jen
nifer Cook and Shelly Austin both intercepted
passes to help their team. Shannon Scheble also
had a busy nigtht as the team’s kicker. The vic-
torous coaches for the seniors wereT.R. Russell,
Ward Surratt, Jeff Hogan, and Ron Quarles.
The jimior’s offense was led their QB,
Jennifer Eller. The entire offense played a good
game but fell a little short. Kristi Johnson caught
a pass for yardage, and Marcee Vanoree ran the
ball for additional yardage. All of the juniors put
forth a good effort. The juniors were coached by
Xaricus Allen, Eric Hatley, Lamonte Davis, Eric
Culp, and Adrian Dennis.
The highlight of the night was watching the
Homecoming ceremony. Some of the partici
pants were very original. The Homecoming
court was selected, and the winners were Jack
Baldwin and Warren Misenheimer. The Home
coming queens were Mike Fun and Dion Brooks.
Mike Furr was the most original, wearing a de
signer swim suit by Ocean Pacific. The cheer-
leading squad also left a lasting impression on the
fans. The members of the squad were Seth Cain,
Bryan Land, Danny Landis, John Paige, Johnthan-
Bowers, Tim Russell, and Donnie Lummus.
