Project Pass Offers Second Chance for Success
By Jessica Poplin
As the second nine weeks began, a new concept in helping students pass their courses began here
atAHS. Project Pass, a unique after school instrution option, offers students a second chance to pass
a course he or she failed during regular class time. This course meets each day from 3:00 to 4;00PM.
This quarter students who failed Algebra II or English IV were offered the opportunity to get a passing
grade by attending the after school class. This class will last nine weeks, like a regular class, and
attendance is requred every day. The grade for this class will replace the failing grade from the
previous nine weeks.
The teachers for these after school classes are Mrs. Aim Warner, who teaches English IV, and Ms.
Testa, who teaches Algebra II. Mrs. Warner has been a student teacher for Mr. Holt during this fall
semester. She says that she is very excited that she was hired for Project Pass and enjoys teaching
the seniors in her class. She says that all her students are doing well and passed their first test
Ms. Testa has a class consisting of 12 students , and she says they are doing fairly weU. She
graduated from Carolina last May with a math education degree. She says that her students seem to
be committed to Project Pass and attend class everyday.
Project Pass is a wonderful chance for someone who falls behind to catch back up and pass all their
subjects. Take advantage of this unique program!
Got a Problem? Get a Solution!
By Mysty Blalock
Do you have a problem with AHS? Is there
something about this school that you just can’t
stand.? If so, talk to the Superintendent’s Advi

issues that are of importance to students and
teachers.
Stephen Aldridge, Courtney Owens, and

FCA Starts Big Brother/Big Sister Program
By Jessica Poplin
This year the FCA has added a special com
mittee to coordinate a program for at risk ele
mentary students. This committee is called the
Big Brother/Sisterprogram. Each child, who was
chosen from East Albemarle and North Albe
marle Elementary Schools, has 3 big brothers or
big sisters who are FCA members. There are 17
children and approximately 50 FCA members
participating in the program.
The members check with theirlittle brother or
sister every week to see how he or she is getting
along. The FCA is really doing a great thing by
showing interest and offermg their time to help
these children. They took them to a football
game and are now planning a Christmas party.
Thanks to the help of Jayne Cummings, the
committee is doing a terrific job and hopefully
will be able to continue the project next year.

Christmas Officially Arrives!
By Mysty Blalock
Tis the season to be jolly. That's right!
Christmas season will officially start the Mon
day after Thanksgiving at 4:30PM with the an
nual Christmans parade. The Chamber of Com
merce is sponsoring the p>arade. This year's
parade will have approximately 165 units with
the grand marshall being the troops who partici
pated in Desert Storm. Also the famous Johnson
C. Smith marching band will be a featured part of
the parade.
AHS will be well represented in this annual
event. Participating in the parade are Mr. and
Ms. VICA, the J.V. cheerleaders, varsity cheer
leaders, homecoming queens, junior and senior
court, B ADD Club, Black Culture Club, and of
course, the band. Everyone come out to Main
Street and support the students of AHS as they
help usher the jolly old man into Albemarle.
