Some of the story lines that keep us hanging everyday, especially on Fridays are that someone goes into a coma, someone finds out that they are not who they thought were. Some more recent ones are that someone found out they are having a baby and the father has run off, someone has discovered they have HIV. As the years carry on, the soap op>eras are good with keeping up with the latest issues. Not only do the stories keep up with what’s going on,they also keep up with the latest fashion and styles. Ten years ago to„now you can tell an amazing difference between the styles. The clothes and hair have changed dramatically. Today entire magazines are devoted to what’s going on with soap ojjeras. They tell all about a particular soap opera and about the actors who play on the different soap operas. So if you can’t stand not to be able to watch that favorite soap, go pick up a copy of Soap Opera Digest or just tape them. Mrs. Joslyn Allen, new asst, principal. Ingram Advances As Morehead Scholar By Eloise Odom Senior Marcus Ingram has been chosen as a Morehead Scholarship fmalists from Stanly County. He now competes on the regional level for this prestigious award. TheMorehead Schol arship is a full scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill. To win this honor students must be evaluated on moral force of character, capacity to lead and motivate fellow students, scholastic ability and extracurricular attaiiunents, and physical vigor. Marcus has the strong qualities needed to be a Morehead Scholar. He is the President of AHS’s student body, a drum major for the band, and a high honor roll student. As a coimty nominee,he is the recipient of the N.C. Merit Award of $500 is he chooses to go to UNC Chapel Hill. Mrs. Pollard says, “We are very proud of Marcus. He has been an excellent student leader for our school, and we’re real happy he’ll be able to represent AHS as a More head Nominee.” Good luck Marcus! IM Marcus has been very active during his four years at AHS. We all SBPeam for ice Ci*eam|! by Kevin Lambert Have you ever stood in the frozen food aisle, perplexed by the problem of frozen dessert selec tion? Well then, have I got a treat for you! If you carry this helpful review wherever you go, then you never have to fret over whether or not your selectionof icecream will please your family and friends. That is unless you lace it with rat poison; in that case, I can’t help you. So use this handy four star scale and enjoy! FOUR STARS- Not bad. Could be better; try for something with a little more “zing”. THREE STARS-The worst. You can do a lot better than this. TWO STARS-The absolute best. Possibly the key to world peace. ONE STAR-Pretty good. Definitely a pick for the cash impaired. Rrevers Ice Cream- Definitely top of the line. The vanilla gives a whole new definition to “ice cream”. It is unbelievably smooth and explodes with flavor. The strawberry is great, ditto for the chocolate. Breyers really had me screaming for ice cream. I gave it two thumbs up. ■inn Brand Ice Cream-I have some not-so fond memories of this ice cream. It is assuredly the bottom; it is the epitome of low. The vanilla is bland, though I must say almost satisfying. while I have major complaints for the chocolate and strawberry. The strawberry, which resembles strawberry Quik, givs it a false sense of straw berry - an insult to strawberries. As for the choco late, I can only say that it tastes like mayonnaise (YUK!). I give this ice cream one train ride to Hades. Pet Ice Cream-For the money. Pet is definitely a best buy. While their chocolate milk is far below par, their ice cream is satisfying, even for a connoiseur. The best part is their wide selection of flavors, my favorites being chocolate chip and cookie dough. On a scale of 1 -10,1 give it a B+. The Ice Cream in the Cafeteria-Hello? Quality Control? Wake up! This ice cream is definitely a sparring partner for Food Lion Brand. What is up with that dried pudding/plasm that is at the bottom of the little cardboard lid and lines the plastic cup? The nutty buddies are o.k., but once again the pudding/plasm su-ikes, but along with a bit of wrapper that sticks to the cone when you try to remove it. Hunter Ice Cream-It’s in the Breyers jjrice range, but definitely not Breyers. It is a top notch ice cream, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not worth the money. Plus, the box never opens right. I gave it a “rama rama” on the “rama rama ding dong” scale. Jill loves Gilligan Island reruns, A
