FEBRUARY 1996 a a THE FULL MOON Features EDITOR : JENNIFER LOWDER PAGE 2 Into The Real Lilorld by Mary Nance As the first semester of school has come to a close, seniors begin to think about leaving home. Whether going off to school, to work, or to merely live on their own, seniors must be capable of doing everyday activities for themselves. From now on in most cases, their moms will not be there for them to wash their clothes or cook their meals. Hopefully, throughout these past four years at Albemarle High School, these seniors have learned how to take on responsibilities and act as behaved, young adults. Most seniors are definitely ready to leave our hometown of Albemarle and go to more exciting places. After all, there certainly is not all that much to do in our little town. However, most all seniors will have to admit that they will miss their family and friends. Also, the parents of these seniors are going to have a hard time adjusting to their sons and daughters leaving home. For some, this will be their first time dealing with a child leaving them, and for others, this will be the last time; therefore, they will have no more children left at home and most likely be very lonely. It will be a meaningful time for everyone who is involved. As a senior, I am somewhat ready to leave so that I can begin my own life and sSe just what I can contribute to the world and society today. Living on my own will be tough, but I know that I can handle it. Good luck to all the seniors as they begin their journey into the real world. FULL MOON Published nine times per year by the journalism class at Albemarle High School Member Quill and Scroll Starr Mary Nance- Editor-in-Chief A|wil Bailey - Co-Editor, Sports Eloise Odom - Co-Editor, News Jennifer Lowder - Features Editor Dustin Poplin - Entertainment Editor Susan Hathcock - Advisor Senior Staff Shawna Eulo, Mandy Poston, Kristina Scott Junior Staff Christine Chamben, Allen Furr, Allison Hudson, Katie Mabry, Kelly Rakes, Rusty Story Body Piercing, It's Not Just For Ears by Christy Chambers There’s a new fashion craze that’s hitting Albemarle with a BANG; it’s body piercing! Believe it or not, body piercing has become a major fashion craze right here at AHS. You may be thinking ears, but we are talking about other parts of the body that are being pierced. It’s a craze that has gotten lots of attention because p>eople don’t understand why you would subject yourself to such pain. Whoever thought that body piercing would become such a fad? Besides ears, people have begun piercing areas such as the belly button, chest, tongue, upper ear, nose, eyebrow, and lower lip. This may seem like severe pain to you, but some people actually enjoy the intense feeling. I speak from experi ence because I, myself, had my upper ear pierced and it was not enjoyable. Therefore I would never endure the pain of any other places on my body being pierced. Angela Vanore had her tongue pierced and said, “People may think I am crazy for getting my tongue pierced, but I won der what they would think, if they knew what the real purpose of a tongue ring is.” There are many gills here at AHS who have thier belly buttons pierced, such as Mika Rogers, Sommer Th ompson, Elsa Lee, and Tabitha Taylor. Tabitha said, “I don’t really care that it’s there; it really doesn’t bother me.” Mika Rogers said, “It hurt really, really, really bad for like a minute, and it still hurts, because its infected. Other than that it’s great!” Amazing as that may seem, one student here at AHS went far as having his chest pierced. Josh Hamra, a junior at AHS, got his chest pierced. You wonder why? Well, we did, too, so we asked him and this is what he said, “It felt really good, but it bled a liale, so that freaked me out. The only reason I had it done was because these girls said I wouldn’t do it, and they offered to pay so I said okay!” If you are considering getting anything on your body pierced then I suggest you talk to someone who has had it done so you can get a better understanding about everything (especially the pain). Just remember, though, it’s a fad now, but like every thing, it comes and goes, so if you pierce any thing it’s pierced for good.
