At the end of every school year, selected sen iors are rewarded for their academic accomplish ments at the Academic Awards Banquet. Those students who qualify to attend are North Caro lina Scholars, President's Award for Educational Excellence winners, or and National Honor Societymembers. TobeaNorthCaroliruiScholar, a student must have maintained a 3.0 GPA throughout his four years of high school and have taken selected courses specified by the State Board of Education. Moreover, to be a Presiden tial Excellence recipient, a student must have made a 620 or over on either the verbal or mathe- maticsportionoftheSAT and have a 3.5 or better by Mary Nance GPA. ^ styling at the Beach I believe that this banquet is very important as it recognizes students’ achievements. In high school, many students do well academically but not athletically, so they are not knovm to their peers as excellers. However, t>y being invited to and recognized at a fimction like the Academic Awards Banquet, students can be known as achievers. These students must study hard and spend much time out of class to be a part of either the North Carolina Scholars Program or to be a President's Excellence recipient If you know someone who has excelled academically, give them a pat on the back because they have really worked hard to be where they are today! by Allison Hudson If you want to look stylish on the beach this year, listen up. Finding the perfect bathing suit is very difficult You want a bathing suit that will flatter your body style. Some girls dig two piece bathing suits while others like to kick back in a one piece. Department stores have already got their summer swim suit line in and they are selling like crazy. The problem of buying from a department store is that everyone buys from them. The last thing you want to do is be caught on the beach with another girl's swim suit on, especially if she has a better body than you. You might want to check out Donna Karen’s new line, Calvin Klein, Victoria’s Secret, or some of the hottest catalogs. There are a few things that you can purchase to accent your bathing suit A cute skimpy cover- up is always good. This is for running back and forth to the motel room. Matching sandals look great also. These are to protect your feet from the sand spurs. You also must have a matching tote bag and hat You have got to take your water bottle, sun saeen and tanning oil, your romance novel, sweat rag, lemon quench money, and Evian water mister in something. So, why not be stylish in doing it? To top off your fashionable beach attire, don’t forget the sunglasses. The Sunglass Hut has the greatest shades by Ray Ban, Donna Karen, Guess, Stussy, Oakley andGargo- les. So, before you hit the beach this year find a bathing suit that flatters your body, and go from there. Good luck on shopping, and if you do a good job on making yourself look outrageous on the beach, who knows, you might pick up a cutie. Emily N.is ready to liit the beach in style. Beach Bound by Allison May 31st is not far away, and this means that beach time is not far away either. Beach gradu ation can be the most exciting time of a teenager's high school years. It is a whole week of lying in the sun, cruising the strip, meeting lots of people, and going to Mother Fletcher's. At Myrtle Beach the excitement is imlimited. This week is a time to be away from Albemarle and experience pure freedom! It is also a time to be with your graduating class before you venture off to college or work. In the halls of Albemarle High you can hear everyone talking about the big beach plans that they have. I went around and asked what everyone was looking forward to most, and here is what they had to say... DeShanne LiUy- I'll be busy spending time with my man Big Poppa. Hudson LoLita Jackson- I’m gonna to chill with my friends, and pick up some honeys. Teshika Edwards- 111 be babysitting Brico the whole time. Dustin Poplin-1 ’11 advise everyone to stop drink ing. Whit Parker and Brent Whitley- We are going to organize a beach clean-up committee, offer rides to the impaired, and PROTECT ourselves. Jason Hedrick- I’ve got to pick up my next shipment. Grant Hopkins- I’m going to stay inside because the sand scares me. John Brooks- I’m not going because I don’t want to fall into the devil’s plan. Gresham Wilham- I’ll t)e playing an intense game of coed twister.
