Tracking Down the Competition

The boys and girls track teams have competed
recently in two conference meets and one non
conference. They both placed first in a confer
ence meet against West Montgomery, West
Rowan, and Mt Pleasant There were many first
place finishers in this meet. Cedric Baldwin
placed first again in the long, high, and triple
ump.The4xl00m relay and4x400mrelay teams

both placed first. Saladine Peets placed first in
the 400m run. Katie Mabry placed first in the
high jump and Kelley Morehead in the 100m
high hurdles and 300m hurdles. The relay teams
which placed first were 3200m and the 4x400m
relays. Eloise Odom placed first in the 1600m
and 3200m run. Tammy Dorman placed first in
the 400m run, also Sweet Flake in the 800m run.
The two teams also placed first in a non-confer
ence meet against North Stanly, West Montgom
ery, and North Moore. In this non-conference
meet, Cedric placed first again in the long and
triple jump. J-R- Harriman placed first in the
pole vault The 4x400m and 3200m relay teams
also had a first place finish. Once again Saladine
Peets had a first place finish in the 400m run, and
Michael Dennis came in first in the 800m run.
The girls had many first place finishers starting
with Kelley Morehead in the 100m and 300m
hurdles. The 3200m, 4xl00m, and 4x400m re
lays teams were first Once again, Eloise Odom
placed first in the 3200m and 1600m run. Sweet
ran the 800m run and Felicia Ridgley ran the
400m run both placing first The meet against
North Rowan, West Rowan, and West Stanly
which was rescheduled for April 4th caused
many conflicts for the runners allowing only a
few to auend the meet Consequently, the girls
and boys placed third.

The men’s varsity baseball team is well into
conference play. They are currently 5-6 and 3-4
in the conference. Two of the defeats were to
Salisbury by scores of 9-2 and 8-5. Both confer
ence losses were to conference leader North
Rowan and second place West Stanly. The team
played in an Easter Tournament at Catawba
College April 4-8. They were defeated 2-0 by
South Rowan in their opening round game. They
then faced West Rowan and achieved their first
tournament win by a score of 6-5. They next
faced Salisbury in the third round consolation
game and were defeated 7-4. They then traveled
to West Rowan for another conference game and
were beat 8-6. They then came home to defeat
county rival North Stanly. They came from
behind to win 5-4. Leading hitters on the team so
far this season have been Jeremy Clarke and
Charlie Crawley. Alex Lowder and Rufus Lefler
have made some spectacular defensive catches in
the center field and left field positions for the
Bulldogs. Brett Gibson, Brian Stoker, Justin
Kimery, Rusty Story, and Travis Caster have all
pitched their share of innings this season. The
dogs have begun playing their games at 7 ;00 now
and will appreciate your support.
Tennis Anyone?
The Albemarle Bulldogs tennis season is started
off with a bang with a record of 3-3. Grant
Hopkins has led the way for the Dogs at the
number one seed. Devron Furr has also had a
good start to his season in singles. Jamie Sim
mons is 5-2 since the basketball season. Other
supporting players on the team are David Phibbs,
Jason Smith, Jonathon Dry, and Josh Lawson.
They are surviving well in conference play. The
Bulldog tennis team also has continued to domi-

nate the county with arecord of 21-0 over the last
six years. The Bulldogs have defeated West
Davidson, South Stanly, North Stanly, West
Stanly,Mt.Pleasant,andCent6alCabamis. TTiey
were defeated by Salisbury,West Montgomery,
and West Rowan. Coach Moran would like to
encourage everyone to come out and support his
team. He also said that he would pay all the
students' admission fee for the first 50 that come
to the game.
