Aren’t you glad you aren't a Comet—something from out- erspace, or aColt—asmelly animal thatlives in a bam? The Bulldog is a fitting mascot for AHS as it is a symbol of ferocity and toughness. Bulldogs were bred in Britain for the so-called “sport” of bull-baiting. This activity involved an exceedingly strong dog who co^ld hold a bull by the ear after it was baited. Dog- fighting was a natural outgrowth of bull-bait ing but was outlawed in 1835. There are traces of the old fighting, bull-baiting dog in the present-day Bulldog. Formidable in appearance with the look of great strength, the Bulldog exemplifies the PRIDE here at AHS. Travis Gaster, Greg Nahrgang, and Jeremy Clarke all agree that our fighting Bulldog football team’s bark was as big as their bite. The Albemarle Bulldog re mains, and always will, a symbol of ferocity and toughness. GO DOGS!!! AHS mascot, Brandon Cooke shows off his Bulldog Pride.
