Anderson’s new 5 and 10/ store
opened December 10. This store car
ries a complete line of toys, perfume,
cosmetics, and other things of this
kind. Candy was given to every child
who visited the store on opening day.
Santa Claus in person was there on
Saturday, December 17, so that all the
children pould tell him what they v/anted
for Christmas. Highlands is proud of
its new store and hopes that it will be
a success.
The Dramatic Club met December 8,
with about twenty members present. The
Christmas pageant v;as practiced and
plans for having a Christmas tree in the
center of town were discussed*.
A group of Boy Scouts has been or
ganized with Mr, DuPree as scoutmaster;
Louis Edwards, assistant scoutmaster;
Edward Potts, chief patrol leader;
Vernon Aiken and Elmer McDowell, patrol
leaders. Mr. W. H. Ccbb has given the
use of the cabin on the old Richardson
place for tlie next year.
The Boy Scouts were the guests of the
Lions Club at n. dinner at the Hotel
Edvmrds, Monday evening, December 12.
Several members of both clubs were pres
ent. A delicious dinner was served.
Miss Eva Potts arrived home Decem
ber 14, to spend several days with her
parents, Mr, and Mrs. J. E, Potts,
Mr. Harry T^right, a graduate of
Highlands High School, who is now em
ployed by the Forest Service, will be
married December 17, to Miss Sara Nell
Moore of Lake City, Fla*
The Episcopal Church School of
Highlands will have its annual Christ
mas tree December 23, at four o'clock,
at the church. Many donations have
already been received by the chairman
of the tree committee. Miss Estelle
Edwards.
Miss Estelle Edward s has returned
from a visit to the campus of the
University of Georgin, where she at
tended school last year.
FATHER IS GONE
Father is gone
We miss him so.

The following students have arrived
home to spend the holidays with their
parents: Miss Carolyn Potts, from the
Women’s College of the University of
N. C., Greensboro; Miss Sarah Thompson,
from Queens-Chicora College, Charlotte;
and Guy ITarren Paul, from Brevard Col
lege,
Mr, and I'frs, F. C. Hentz will visit
their homes in Pomaria and Mullins, S.C.,
during the holidays.
Miss Elizabeth Whiteside will leave
December 23, to spend the holidays at
her home in Uree, N. C,
Ho taught us the right thing
He gave us good advice.
And if we do not live his teachings
17e will have to pay the price.
On the eighteenth of November,
God called him away
And left six orphans
to make their own way,
