Cheeonondah Garden, perhaps more wide
ly known as Sloan's Garden, will be open
to the public on Sunday, August 6, from
5 to 8 o'clock p.m., for the benefit of
of the Highlands Museum# Tickets are on
sale at Highlands Drug Store and at High

Sloan estate on the side of Satulah Moun
tain, is approximately thirty years old.
This garden is one of the renowned beauty
spots of Western North Carolina, and con
tains quantities of imported plants and
shrubs. Of particular interest are the
two Gingko trees. The Gingko tree is the
sacred tree of China, and is the oldest
known tree in the world. Numbers of
Scicilian and Spanish vases or jars fill
ed with choice plants dot this garden. All
of these vases are very old, some of them
dating back two thousand years, A visit
to this famous garden is worth many times

Mr, and Mrs, Edgar Neely of Atlanta
have purchased the Elliott cottage on Sa
tulah Mountain, and have taken possession.
Mr, and Ilrs, Neely twice occupied this cot
tage before buying it. Highlands is indeed
pleased to number them among its permanent
summer residents.
SOCO GAP CHAMPION SQUARE DANCERS TO BE
AT HELEN’S BARN MOITDAY E^rENING
The Soco Gap National championship
square dance team will be at Helen's
Barn next Monday evening, August 7th,
at 8:30 o’clock. This promises to be
one of the outstanding attractions of
the season. It will bo remembered 't;hat
this team danced before the King and
Queen of England on their recent visit
to the United States at a reception given
for them at the whitehouse.

tre presentation to be given * August 14,
at Highlands School Theatre, beginning
at 2:30 o’clock, was written by Maxwell
Anderson, that pre-eminent playwright
among modern authors.
This play is being brought here by the
recently organized Highlands Little The
atre, and tickets may be purchased from
