THE MOUNTAIN TRAIL AUGUST 9, 1940 MISS HEISLER’S PAINTING ON EXHIBITION AT THE HOME OF ROOT Miss Mary Heisler, Beaumont, Texas, artist, whose painting "Sally*' won her the Rainwater scholarship award, which entit led her to a summer of painting in High lands, has just completed a portrait of Mrs, Neil Conrad and one of Mr. Robert Maddox and is now working on one of Miss Clara Jones, daughter of Mr, and f.^rs*Bobby Jones, Some of Miss Heisler*s works are on ex hibition at the homo of Mrs, J. W, Edwards is in receipt of a letter from Mr* J, E, Coad, secretary of the Hickory (N*C.) chamber of commerce, written on his return home after he and his family had boen guests at Hotel Ed wards during the rooent heat wave. This letter is so warm in its praise of High lands that w© are quoting a part of it here; "The thermometer registered 95 degrees when we reached home last night and was still 80 degrees at mid-night. You can imagine our feeling after the night before at Highlands where, as you know, we slept under two blankets* "You have a wonderful spot and if peo ple only knew the real summer comfort awaiting them there your city would easily double in size* Mrs* Coad and I have ful ly made up our minds ,that Highlands is where v/e v;ant our summer homo, I believe I know a himdred men over the central South who would be just as crazy about tho BENEFIT GOLF flATCH PLAYED BEFORE LARGE GALLERY Although weather conditions were much against the golf exhibition for the bene fit of the Hudson library last Sunday afternoon, the match was played before a fine gallery.
