Grade News Con’t, EiaHTH GRADE NEWS The eighth grade class has fifteen boys and twenty girls this year, with one new boy, Steve Pierson who came from Atlanta, Georgia. ¥e hope he will have a nice year with us. We are doing many things in our studies, especially in science* We have made one notebook about energy, and we are now working on one of leaves. We hope to have a good year with teachers and friends. Ann Waller ECONOIIICS CON‘T Tho main thing to be done in Child Care t'ri.ll be studying and observing children. This will include mainly, the cliild’s behavior and habits. This will bo taught about four weels. E, Home Care of 6ick, There vriLll be a first-aid room set up at school by the girls. Each girl will study any special problem cases in her home. This topic vdll be taught about three weeks, F, Personal Grooming and Health, Good posture, correct care of skin, hair and nails, becoming hair styles, personal hygiene, and eating habits will be observed by the girls. This i-d.ll be taught for about two weeks, G, Family Relationships, Tho girls vri.ll study their person al faroily relationship, problems of dating and early marriages, and family group planning. This Td.ll be taught for approximately three weeks, H, Homo Management, This vail deal mainly vd.th doing housework, learning to save time and money in doing housexrork and home safety. This topic will be taught for about three weeks, I, Etiquette and good manners. The girls vd.ll observe other stu dents at school, at receptions and teas, (tho girls will give a tea), dining out and being served. This vglll take about tv7o vreeks, J, House Ririshings, The girls vd.ll study the good and bad exang^les in design, developing good taste in design, buying of furniture, and uso of filmstrips. This vri.ll be taught about three vraeks, GIRLS SPORTS IffiWS The girls basketball team has got ten off to a good start this year ;ri.th Mr, Hendrix as our coach. We are all looking fonrard to this year, especial ly the seniors who iid.ll be playing their last year, Tho captain of the team is Jessie Harbison and co-captains T^ill be the starting six who Viri.ll alternate each game. The follovrijig girls make up the team tliis year: Jessie Harbison, Katherine Prince, VJanda Hopper, Frances Vinson, Eunice Wilson, Linda Hedden, Ann Wax, I-Iargaret HcCarty, Kathy Car penter, Joyce Lowe, Dot Dovrdle, Kath erine I'feely, Barbara Wilson, Margaret Rogers, Lucille Crane, and Lois Hedden, Betty Wilson was chosen as manager. Our first non-conference vd.ll be iilth Ifountain View, November 3, We all hope that this year vrill be a successfvil one, BOYS SPORTS mm The basketball season has begvin and all of tho players are looking forward to an exciting season. We have a very good coach and promising teams. The boys have an above average height team and we are going to give the other clubs some good competition, Tho Eastern Division of the Smoky Mountain Conference begins December 12.
