The race had begun Thursday, October 11, with the selection of seventeen homeroom representatives. By voting at a penny for a vote, this number was nar rowed down, Wednesday, October 2M-,to eight final ists with two coming frorn each class. They were Judy Daniel and Ann Lefler,S€B.- iors; Elizabeth Armstrong and Jo Ann Thompson, jun iors; Ileine Brock, emd Ann Vanhoy, sophomores; and Cathy Nichols and Linda Whitley, freshmen. The race closed officially Friday, October 26, but the new queen was not an nounced until the game. Immediately after the f?ame, students and former throne of the queen. School Spirit Week began on Monday, October 21, with a battery of spii’- ited posters decorating the ^>uilding. Tuesday’s posters’ enphasized Honesty in all activities and spirited each classroom. Taking better care of cur school building and pro perty headed.;, Wednesday’s I agenda while"Thursday and Friday were devoted to jteam support. Also on jFriday was stressed the Ipatriotic wearing of red, black, and white. J J J , f^arion Dorsett nas been named as a National Merit semifinalist on the basis of her outstanding perfor mance on the National Merit Ex«ji which was given jin the school last March. ! Marion is very much in volved in extracurricular activities at West. She is a cheerleader and a mem ber of the National Beta Club, the French Club, the Future Teachers, and the Monogram Club. She is very interested in all sports,- especially basketball and water skiing. Marion en joys reading a great deal, historical fiction being her favorite. Participation in commun ity affairs are "musts" in Marion’s life. She is sec retary of the Montgomery County Teen Dems, She is a member of the Mt, Gilead Methodist Church and is past secretary of the MYF. Marion feels that one of her most enjoyable activi ties was her participation in the community written and produced musical,"Like Diamond Rings". Marion is now making plans to enter Duke University where she will major in psychology.
